My college has installed a firewall. How would my roommates and I go about getting around this in order to use our music download software?
Thanks in advance.

If they have the firewall there to stop you from using your download music software, then the answer is: You don't, or you get busted and lose your internet access.
It's best to ask your administrator rather than try to circumvent these things. I've seen people get reprimanded at work just for trying to beat the firewall for nothing more than a messanger program.

By using the college network you are agreeing to the terms of service wether you realize it or not. I would not advise you to try and circumvent a firewall. It is grounds for having your priveleges revoked. When you can afford your own place and bandwidth you can do whatever you want.

Attempting to circumvent the firewall is a bad idea. Colleges block file-sharing programs for a reason: so they don't get hassled by the RIAA.
This is when you start making commuter friends.

This is asking how to do something illegal. Don't do it.

Some people aren't doing their jobs, it seems...

When I was at the Uni they blocked P2P programs and said their reason for doing so was to protect students against hackers. That was their ONLY admited reason for doing so. I have to wonder how they could justify punishing students who bypassed the firewalls.

There are certain mechanisms and ways to get around university firewalls. They will not be posted here. If you want music, you'll have to buy it.
Spanky: you don't need to tell us moderators how to do our jobs.

Come to think of it, using your college's connection for downloading pr0n, music, whatever, is unethical. Your college pays top dollar for that fast connection, and it is there for the educational benefit of students and faculty. Think of it this way: our tax dollars are invested in campus technologies; we don't need them wasted due to some kids wanting their P2P fix.
Please, download music on your own connection and your own money.

Indeed. There's nothing more annoying than trying to do some research and discovering that multiple OC-3s are saturated with file sharing.
