I found it enjoyable, but that's not to say it's great or 'must have'.

Good: Non-newtonian physics in space, plus fighting and stuff.

Bad: Painful when not flying in space.

I installed it , played for a few hours and then never played again. It just did not grab my attention.

It's a renter, not a keeper. Too short. Repetetive. Not nearly as good as Privateer.

It's good if you miss a good old space shooter of a type simpler than X-Wing or Freespace. It's got many mods as well, and there are places to explore with good graphics.
But if you want something Privateer-ish, EV Nova (although 2D), X-Beyond the Frontier or hell even Hardwar is a better bet.

I played the demo and didn't much like it.

Eve wasn't all that good either.

I'll stick with EV Nova. It's a lot more fun.

Fun, unfortunatly...steep challenge curve(goes from way too easy to 200 enemy super ships in less then a mission)

Also too short honestly.

It is good, but do NOT buy the game if you want a simulation. This is an FPS in space for the most part with an interesting story. I am saddened they failed to adapt this as a Privateer spiritual sequel. I would rate this closer to the old Dagger Fall game. Massive exploration, FPS combat, fair amount of adaptibility and changing by your own part.

Incorrect. If you are a fan of the Wing Commander, X-Wing, or Freespace series then Freelancer is NOT the game to get. Thats like saying if your a fan of RTS games you should buy Half-Life. TOTALY DIFFERENT GAME.

Where I'd love to spend the time picking that post to pieces on why it is almost the same....he's got a point..it's a waste of money that does not compair to the originals.

I said of a type simpler. You are correct in saying that it's different, dumbed down perhaps, but I did not mean that it is the excat same of those above. [EDIT] I just don't think the differance is as big as your analogy makes it out to be. [/EDIT] If you shortened the distances on X-Wing, took out power management and replaced joystick control with the mouse, then won't you be left with Freelancer?

Upon further thinking, I suppose the number of hits your ship can take might prove your point, but I still the think the analogy is too wide, and that the fact that a third axis, ship-based gameplay means it's more of a crossover the way Battlezone crossed strategy with action, whilst Freelancer crosses Space Shooters with FPS.

The game does not operate like a simulation game to any extent at all. You do not pilot your ships, you simply point and click. The game is very much like an FPS in space. It only has super ficial similarities to a space sim. The game has removed the core elements that make a proper simulation.

Conceeded, but it's a nitpick that you don't have to use point and click, you can use direct mouse movement (the ship moves with the mouse).

But where you find it in the shops? :) It never even came to Hong Kong. :( Plus, most people haven't heard of it.

To this day I still have nightmares involving the endlessly repeated broken dialogue and horrible voice acting.

"Oh hi, I've never seen you around here before. I work for CRIER PHARMACUTICLES. We don't run this station but we have an understanding with the people that do."

"This your first time here? I work for THE BOUNTY HUNTERS GUILD. We don't run this station but we have an understanding with the people that do."

"Oh hi, I've never seen you around here before. I work for SOME SHIPPING COMPANY. We run this station."

"This your first time here? I work for CORHAL MINING. We don't run this station but we have an understanding with the people that do."
