Pirates I am a huge fan of Morrowind and this seems to be in the same genre, Now for the question.

Is it worth buying?

Somewhat.

I found it good, but early on, you are running because ship-to-ship battle utterly rape you and your swordsmanship could use hefty improvement.

It has a rather deep learning curve, and takes a decent amount of time to become compentent enough so the game is fun and not a struggle.

If you're expecting Morrowind At Sea, you'll be disappointed. The game doesn't have nearly the depth that Morrowind does, nor does it have the character creation, customizability, interaction, or story. Make no mistake: POTC is a boat game. Everything that happens on land LOOKS pretty, but it's pretty standard stuff... nothing special. The ship-to-ship battles are the focus of the game.

With that said...

THE SHIP-TO-SHIP BATTLES ARE FUCKING AWESOME!!!

The beginning of the game is a little rough, since you start with a piss-shit ship... but you can quickly and easily save money (through merchant cargo-delivery quests) to buy a bigger one, or steal one from a lesser pirate that attacks you. Once you get a nice-sized boat, maybe a couple of 'em (your own miniature fleet), you can just WHOMP THE FUCK out of any mofo that comes near you.

Don't expect Jack Sparrow, though. The POTC tie-in was a last-minute decision, pretty much limited to the title of the game, a few narratives by Keira Knightley, and a nifty side-quest involving the Black Pearl... but nothing directly from the movie.

Sword-fighting IS fun, though simplistic. It's VERY easy to get killed if you don't watch it. However, if you're quick, it's also easy to kick ass...

I think it's a good game. But, again, just don't expect Morrowind with boats.
