I just picked it up. Beautifully rendered game, and moderately challenging. It's been so long since I've played a fighting game that I've had to re-develop my twitch reflexes almost from scratch. To those who have it, what do you think of it?

Decent.
Much of the problem is that while it has some new defensive options...the game has a few problems persay in longevity.
Edgemaster, while fun, is a five hour romp(and this is mean being lazy about it...not just simply mowing down the opposition)
And after that I'm playing SC1 with a few extras. Some of the new characters add a little flavor but do not on the whole give the same level that Soul Calibur did to Soul Edge. Characters play the same with a couple additions and the Extra Mode makes for far too quick gameplay(sorry the inclusion of super weaponry I thought might add life...but when 1 combo can kill my friend or he can hold onto if he has a super defensive weapon for 2-3 combos...is not an improvement).
It's a fun romp but honestly it's SC1.5 more then a sequel.

I agree with GR... instead of it being revolutionary like SC1 it is more evolutionary. I don't like half the new costumes for the character and the graphics are so so... not much better than SC on dreamcast. For veterans like myself and others the learning curve is very small... a little to small for my liking and the new characters are so so. On a scale of 1-5 i give it a 3

It's MADE for multiplayer. Get friends.
EDIT: Over to play, I mean.

I do...they don't like unless I play random(and even then...they hope I don't get either Maxi, Voldo, Kilik, Astaroth, YunSung, Nitemare, Cervantes, Link, Lizardman, or Mitsurugi) because having them see me perfect parry counter combo them into either oblivion or ring out, doesn't appeal to their wussy mentalities
And if we play Extra team vs...most hate me more so.
So for me I need either to go to a con(arcade isn't bad...but the one nearby offers little in the way of challenge) or play a really long single player game.

I like it, I think it is currently the best fighting game avalible for the PS2. It is evolutionary though, it did not add anything that great from the original dreamcast game. I would call it Soul Calibur 1.5 myself, Soul Calibur was awesome, and 2 is awesome, just not as ground breaking.
And damn it! I WANT TO PLAY ARTHUR AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!! When I lived in korea I learned with this charactor in the arcade, when I got back to the states he is nowhere to be found. (OK, I know he is just a blonde eye-patched mitsurugi, but I liked him damn it. The same way I like Ryu over Ken in the orginal SF2)
