I swear to Joe I didn't doctor this picture in any way. This is a REAL dialog box.

Did something do that or did you do that on your own?

It's an occasional bug man :D Sometimes I'll empty out the bin and it'll still read as full, so when I go to do it again I get that. Odd.

Do you know what actually happens if you click "yes"?

My guess is that it is joke. If you click yes or no it'll pretend to delete windows and then the screen will go blank and the words "It is a good thing that this is just a game." or something like it and then an advert of a game called "Virus". It's harmless.

*sigh* Ok, dumb dumbs, the file name is "WINDOWS", no file extension. Nothing special, nothing silly. Just nothing.

Here, try it, create a new text file on your desktop. Rename it windows. make sure it has no file extension. Now delete it. Wow, magical.

Not.

That's the Recycle Bin.

Yes, you CAN delete the contents of the Windows folder (I've done it numerous times on win98 only so not sure how it'll affect things on 2000/XP).

So I've never tried it on my XP, but I've done it before for Win98.

Oh. Well, it was funnier from my ignorant viewpoint... it looked like you had tried to delete "Toxic Waste", and the computer assumed you meant "WINDOWS".

Now it's just silly. Thanks a lot. :P

I just had that same bug. The bin was empty, but the icon represented full, I tried to empty it and it asked me if I want to delete "windows".

If I click "yes" I just get "cannot get from the source or disk". I guess it's either a bug, or Windows has really low self-esteem.
