The final versions of steam and CS 1.6 are out, this are NOT beta versions but final versions. You have to install steam and register in order to be able to play CS 1.6. I haven't more information as I am installing steam right now.

This is fucking bullshit. I do NOT like what Valve is doing with Steam and how they are forcing it on to people now.

I solve this problem by not playing CS, although if this goes to NS also there will be Hell to pay.
Not that I'm capable of doing anything about it, but I can bitch pretty well.

Can Valve do this to the non-Valve mods, like DOD, TS, NS etc?

When Half-Life 2 comes out, they can.

Ah, crap. Talking to a Deadclan member and he told me that Steam will be replacing your WON ID. So like in 2-3 weeks, you will be fucked if you try to play any HL game online without it.
Meh....no wait, meh.

This sucks, but people in general will buy HL2 anyways, Steam or no Steam.

From what I've heard Steam is incompatible with some games that still use WON IDs. Unfortunately, I do not know how to fix that.

Does anyone have something good to say about Steam? Because it sounds like the worst piece of shit on the face of this Earth from what I´ve heard.

I have disdain for all copyright enforcement programs because they just don't work. If they actually did their job, I'd be all for them. You should pay for a game you use online. The only people who suffer from them are the people who actually buy the games. Someone always comes up with a way to easily defeat these programs, so the companies get even more draconian on their enforcement causing longer loading time (BF1942 from what I've heard) or screwing anyone who wants to make a legit backup copy of their game.

Last time I played CS was 13 months ago. I think it was 1.3 or something then.
But I think this Steam nonsense with HL1 and 2 pretty much settles which FPS I'm not going to use for any sort of mod/total consersion I've had planned so far. Maybe that new Wolfenstein multiplayer game would do.
Stupid Valve and their pointless programs...

Steam is an all in one program to run all Valve games and mods of said games. Its also a program that will keep said games up to date. Furthermore its your gaming service in windows itself so you can still browse the net while calling up server lists. Steam is also a place to BUY and DOWNLOAD the games if you don't already have them. Varrying levels of Half-Life 2 will be available for purshase.
Now, CS 1.6, the final CS version is available for download ONLY on Steam.

The only reason I have it is because Valve is making it mandatory. Thats right. Valve is going to kill WON in a couple weeks making standard internet play with Half-Life impossible because there is no way to verify WON IDs.

I don't find Steam to be all that bad. I actually seem to get better pings with CS than I used to. *shrugs*
What Im pissed about, is the fact that I can't update my fucking Steam client! It keeps getting a fucking error, most other places I can't connect with for some reason, and the File Planet wait times are just to damn long

Welcome to the club. Steam claims it will only update, but then it forces you to download the full standalone version (if it even works).

Yep, enemy territory is definately worth spending some time on, if you don't mind the somewhat odd medic system.
