FF Tactics Advance
My first Final Fantasy game! I got it earlier this week, and . . . wow. I've logged more than 11 hours, and I'm not even a third of the way into the game yet. The music is pretty good, and the sprites look decent. The combat is pretty fun, and just similar enough to Advance Wars that I could play for an hour before reading the instruction manual. All-in-all, a good game.

Your first FF game?! Egads! You're missing out on some classic titles. Then again, the only one I've played is FF7, so I'll leave the 'FF is awesome!' posts to those with more experience in the matter.Darth Yoshi wrote:My first Final Fantasy game! So...what is Tactics Advance like? I don't know anything at all about the FFTactics series, I assume they're turn-based strategy games with RPG elements. Is it that, or is it straight up turn-based, or what? I haven't played Advance Wars, so I can't comment on those.
You should pick up some of the older FFs at some point. I'll be playing FF6 after I finish Tales of Phantaisa.

Fun game this one...but much more mission orientated then story(or to put it this way...you can beat the story while doing around 1/3 of the entire mission line up.)
Teaming up with someone else is okay.
As for other FF's...without going illegal(guys remember no discussing of ROMS)
1. Final Fantasy Origins: FF1-FF2
2. Final Fantasy Chronicles: FF4-CT(not a FF)
3. Final Fantasy Anthologies: FF5-FF6
4. Final Fantasy 7-10 are for regular purchase.
All but 10 is available for the PS1, FFX is for PS2 only.

Uhhh, yeah, I got an early copy.Ghost Rider wrote: As for other FF's...without going illegal(guys remember no discussing of ROMS)
Anyways I beat it, 30 hours it took me but that was with ave-say tate-says, and it a game like this, that really makes the game easy(espcially with beat down and pandora), probly 5-15 levels lower than what I should have been. My main char was awsome, most of the game he was a fighter with boost archer skill, then I decided to make him paladin, most every enemy he could kill in one hit. Montblanc was my mage, all elemental spell lvls( normal ara aga) and haste/reflect time magic. Finngan( I don't know if your starting team stays the same, or if it's random, human) was a ninja which after looting the 3rd to last boss and his minions had two kick ass weapons, my starting viera became an assassin, my starting banga was a Defender that was really strong, that was training in Dragoon skills when I beat the game, also had a Hunter, Sage, Gunner, and Gadgeteer/thief.

Yeah...there are missions where you can team up. Basically you find them, can get hired...and the fun begins.Badme wrote:Ah yes, sorry. Edited it out.Ghost Rider wrote:(snip)
By the way, you mentioned teaming up with someone. You can play co-op with 2 GBAs and a Link Cable?
Nothing story based...but then again the story only comprimises of 1/8 of the game.

I've been playing the game for a few days. It's alright, but it doesn't hold a candle to Tactics Ogre: Knight of Lodis.

A game where you can win because you constantly press the buttons and learning Cure(that was just a sad thing to see).aphexmonster wrote:Dont forget Final Fantasy Mystic Quest
Besides...one could mention the faux FF titles they made for the GB as well, but have no point in such.

Accually Final Fantasy Adventure wasn't all that bad(not to say it was good) for a B&W Gameboy game.Ghost Rider wrote:A game where you can win because you constantly press the buttons and learning Cure(that was just a sad thing to see).aphexmonster wrote:Dont forget Final Fantasy Mystic Quest

But it was Seiken Densetsu 1(Ie...the prequel to the Mana series over here)
And the FFL were Sagas(ie other parts of the Romancing Saga...of which we basically gotten Sage Frontier 1,2 and Unlimited)
Basically just a use of the FF logo to sell games(course FFA...is called FFUSA in Japan...which I find a tad bit insulting given the ease and stupidity of the game)

FFMQ would have been far better recieved if it had been a gameboy game. Because it had all the things that a portable game needs, it's short, easy to pick up for a few seconds, you can save anywhere...
(It's also the only FF game without any random encounters in it. And Random encounters are the spunk of the devil)

I haven't played Tactics Advanced yet...it looks kinda interesting. Though it also looks nicified...I mean, the bomb looked like a fucking ball of fluff! (Okay not really, so I exagerate a bit) And the idea behind judges...WTF?! Oh well, I suppose it can make the game more difficult. Still, I'll always be partial to the original Tactics and it's storyline so until I play Advanced I'm gonna say the original is better.
What is the storyline of Advanced anyway?

And yeah MQ would've fit more as a GBA game...or now GBA. The game was just dumbed down a wee bit too much(then again I still find it funny we got FF4 Easy Type...Hard Type never lived up to the hype people exclaimed it would.)

.... Should I feel bad that FFMQ was one of the games I actually beat before my SO at the time?
Especially since everytime I play a FF title since, my SO has beaten it and showed me the ending, thus causing me to say "why bother"

Then your SO should hang thy head in shame(unless you were going at it 10 hours a day and he though 1 hour a week was okay). Other then that...feel proud.LadyTevar wrote:.... Should I feel bad that FFMQ was one of the games I actually beat before my SO at the time?

Seriously that game was just sort of a bump in the road in many ways for the FF series of games.

1 for beating Hylide, and another that there is a sequal.
Though never got around to Virtual Hylide...for the Saturn

4 kids. The main character (who looks like a girl), his invalid brother, and his 2 new friends find this book. They read through it, and they talk about how cool it would be to live in a video game. During the night, their wishes come true and the world is transformed. Marche, the main character, tries to find a way home, but his two friends and brother try to stop him, cause reality sucks for all of them.Captain_Cyran wrote:I haven't played Tactics Advanced yet...it looks kinda interesting. Even if Bombs look like fluff, at least the Panthers and Dragons look cool.
And the judges make battles more complicated. Many a time I have been thwarted by the law. For example, let's say your party is down to one guy, in critical health, against five opponents. Calling a Totema would end the battle real quick, but it counts as a Target All attack, and Target All happens to be outlawed on that day. So I can't use it. You can break the law, of course, but you'll either be fined for it, or you'll be jailed. If the last member of your party still standing is jailed, you lose the battle.
