Halo for the PC has gone Gold

Oh yes, it has. You want proof? Gearbox was kind enough to leave some evidence, at least for a while. The evidence was copied before it was taken back down by Gearbox.

What does that mean? Well the Master Chief is Gold. Is that normal? No. Check out the normal Gearbox page.

So it's ready for printing?
Or is the MC actually going to be gold ingame?

Does it include M$ Sidewinder-only game mode so you can actually not beat
the game in less than a day

Say what you will about their software, I've always found MS Mice and Joysticks to be rock solid, dependable and functional. My first "real" joystick was a MS Sidewinder 3D Pro with MW2 bundled with it. That stick served me well for several years and probably is still working for the person I gave it to when Saitek's Cyborg USB caught my eye.

Hence my referring to it as Sidewinder only mode

They upped the difficulty for the PC version. I don't know how, but that's what they've said.

Probably increased enemy health and reduced aiming aids. Using a gamepad for aiming an FPS is clumsy and unintuitive. It'll probably be twice as easy and fast to make shots with the mouse and keyboard, so they'll make the enemy harder to kill.

They turned the auto-aim off, but apparently that's it as far as SP modifications go.

There was autoaim?

Yeah. If you can aim
close to the target, you will score a hit. In most PC shooters, the dot in the center of your aiming reticle has to be
on the target's body or you won't score a hit.
The reason for this change is the superior accuracy of the keyboard/mouse control technique vs the shitty overgrown-cockroach controller used by the XBox.

On Legendary, it's almost non-existent. My long range pistol kills were sorely diminshed while on the difficulty. That said mouse + pistol would make it unstopable.

Well, to be fair, the Xbox controller is actually pretty well designed as far as console controllers go. Granted, the size issue alone makes it difficult for some people to use, but assuming you get one that is appropriately sized for your hands, it's got a good layout of controls. Obviously it's no contention for Mouse and Keyboard when it comes to FPS control and accuracy, but it does a pretty darn good job for a controller (facilitated by the auto-aim, of course). However, auto-aim help has been in First Person Shooters for a long time, going back even to the days of DOOM and Duke Nukem (where you could even allow auto-aiming online). Even Half-Life has an auto-aim feature. The Rainbow Six series even has scalable auto-aim. Of course, most of the time when you go to play multiplayer, auto-aim gets turned off. I don't know if that was the case in Halo for XBox or not, since I didn't play it enough to notice the difference (in fact, I've never played XBox Halo SP).
Also, for fighting games like Soul Caliber 2, the XBox controller really shines, in my opinion. The Gamecube controller has just a sloppy mess of buttons on it and is horribly lopsided. The Playstation controller, while solid, has always been way too small for me, and the analog control stick seems a little off-base. Your thumb wants to naturally go to the D-Pad, which isn't as useful in those types of games.
Still, as far as Halo is concerned, I'm not really interested in picking it up for the PC any time soon. The co-op singleplayer would be the primary draw to this game for me, and it's just not in the PC version. They say it'll be there eventually, but frankly I'm not going to squander my money on a vague promise. Once the co-op mode is ready, I may pick it up from the bargain bin, but otherwise it's not really worth my time. It's not really anything special, the graphics are okay, but now seriously dated. The gameplay is nothing that hasn't been done in several other games before it, the level design is lackluster, and it's bound to have several bugs in it on first release.

Its September 30th release date may also put some people off, assuming Half-Life 2 makes its predicted release date.

Some of us have been playing
Halo PC for a while now, in a limited capacity, and even online.
Edit: I wrote
Halo 2 instead of
Halo PC, my mistake.

I'm going to get it because the multiplayer alone is worth the admission.

From what I've seen, without co-op, the multiplayer is interesting, but nothing that hasn't been done before.

Well, I've had a blast playing it on X-Box, and with all the extra stuff they added to the multiplayer, it's a sure-fire LAN party winner.

Oh yeah, I knew I was thinking of some good multiplayer game when I suggested having a small LAN at your place. W00t to Halo PC.

When's the Australian release? The box is in stores, next to Jedi Academy and Homeworld 2 (with the coming soon stickers on them) but that's it.

Homeworld2 is in my local EB store already, and the Halo for PC is slated for a start of october release.
