Homeworld 2 is out!

Post by Xon »

Yes, thats right. I have a legit copy of homeworld 2.

One cool quote from the game manuel:
Under the guidnce of Karan S'Jet, the Hiigarans have forged an empire spanning the Inner Rim. Although outnumbered, they emerged a dominant force, for they alone, with the Bentusi, possess the ability to Far Jump: to cross vast distances in the blink of an eye
Also it looks like the Vaygr & the Hiigaranians share a common past.

*WTF*

Funny how the Taidani Empire streached from Karahk all the way to Higara and they were constently dogging them all the way though...

HW2 IMO has taken far too many liberties with the storyline in regards to Hyperspace. In HW, the Motherships Hyperspace Core was BUILD bassed on *plans* found in the wreckage of the Kara'toba, reverse enginering the technology they found. Now it was a core that was discovered and simply installed in the mothership? In Homeworld, the mothership and its escort fleet together jumped vast distances yet apparently now only the Mothership is capable of doing this?

Oh and is there ANY mention at all of the events in Cataclysim? Or the Somtaw Kith?

You're Aussie like me, how did you get a legit copy? I went to EB today and it still said coming soon on the box?

I hear the game is ridiculously hard- if so, I'm not going to bother buying it.

Today I spent $89.95 Aus and got Baldur's Gate/TOTSC and Baldur's Gate 2/SOA all in one pack. It's nostalgia time baby (I originally borrowed my friend's copies)- until Greyhawk: Temple of Elemental Evil hits stores (recently went gold EARLY- Tim Cain is GOD).

Visited EB games in the city centre in Perth Western Australia and they have about 20 boxes of them. With the sticker "This box is empty, see staff member for product".

I asked the guy, that was selling it: "isnt it due out on the 20th or something?" His responce was: "Does it really matter?"

Its fairly hard, the AI isnt a push over. But aided by the fact that your ships & stuff is stored in a plain text file for single player campaign.

Its down right trivial to give your self more ships (easy to use ships you have, not so easy to guess ship names for the ones you dont have)

They were traveling through the Taidani Empire, they arent trek who has jack all ships.

And it just means the Hiigaran go faster than everyone else.

Nope, in homeworld 1 the mothership's hyperspace core was the one they lifted from the crashed ship. They managed to duplicate it(otherwise the escorts wouldnt have a hyperdrive!), but they sure as hell didnt understant it.
Oh and is there ANY mention at all of the events in Cataclysim? Or the Somtaw Kith?
Well, you get told that there is one Bentusi ship left. So the events of Cataclysim probable were hard on them.

I would like to clarify this:

The Vaygr, the Hiigaranians, the Bentusi all apear to belong to the same race: Humans.

At the very least the Vaygr & the Hiigaranians descend from human stock.

Actually, the one in the Mothership itself is a scaled-up copy of the Khar-Toba drive. Take a look at this page from the official site, especially this bit under the "Navigation" section:
The full implications of the Mothership's hyperdrive is [sic] not completely understood, but it is the system that makes this voyage possible. Toward the lower aft portion of the ship lies the large shielded area containing the Hyperspace Module. This is a direct copy of the one found under the sands of Khar-Toba, but expanded 12-fold to accommodate a vessel of the Mothership's mass.
This is why I don't understand this "third Core" business. If hyperspace cores are so easily duplicated and expanded, what makes the original Mothership's core so special if it was a copy itself?

Apparently the hw2 stat states were the hell the Kushan picked up the 2nd hyperspace core.

The 3 hyperspace cores look to be a key component in a tran-galactic hyperspace drive.

Since if the Kushan are the descendants of the progenitors, then humanity comes from another galaxy.

Yes thats right, the progenitors didnt originate from the Homeworld galaxy.

Mind you, I haven't played HW2 yet apart from the demo -- it's still not out where I am. The initial premise of the story as listed on the website, though, needs serious explaining due to clashing at first sight with HW1's story. I'll trust Relic to put together a manual that does this (I hope -- last I heard, they were making the background story details a player's guide exclusive).

Relic was not permitted to make a nice, big manual so they could cater to the European "DVD-case" crowd

If you're going to attempt a thinly-veiled jab at the Mac, this is not the thread to do it.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Maybe Beastslayer's canonicity wasn't pulled...

This does link to one other event in the HW saga, in Cataclysm...

Ah, my apologies, but I thought you also had an Alienware laptop?

As for porting Homeworld 2, I doubt that it'll be ported to Macintosh anytime soon. It's running under Linux (SP only) at the moment, but Relic doesn't have the resources to do a simultaneous Mac/Windows release.

The events in general are acknowledged to occur, but things like guided plasma cannon shells are probably reclassified as "hick boasting" or something like that.

For the purposes of providing fuel to a personal theory, would those who already have the game please list the following names from the back of the manual:

Director:
Lead Designer:
Designers:
Manual and Story Written by:
Story Concept:

If the specific job isn't mentioned, then please post the nearest you can figure.

I'm referring to certain aspects of the Naggarok, the Bentusi and Hiigarans, and the Trans-Hyperdrive.

That is fucking bullshit... It was those big manuals that I enjoyed pouring over the most. Such good detailed information.

Well I am fucking pissed with my local stores. There are 6 main stores in my area that sell these games and not a single fucking one has them. I have to wait till the 18th on the earliest to get it from Wal-Mart.

The material has been written...it's just a matter of transmission now. Some material is, apparently, in the Prima Strategy guide.

Relic apparently will be releasing quite a bit of the story online, but the Prima strategy guide (what the manual should have been) has most of the details.

In this day and age of tiny computer game boxes, well, there simply isn't room for a good manual. :(

As for stores, I've been pestering the EB at the mall near uni, they said they'll have it tomorrow. Hopefully.
