They managed to duplicate it(otherwise the escorts wouldnt have a hyperdrive!), but they sure as hell didnt understant it.HW2 IMO has taken far too many liberties with the storyline in regards to Hyperspace. In HW, the Motherships Hyperspace Core was BUILD bassed on *plans* found in the wreckage of the Kara'toba, reverse enginering the technology they found. Now it was a core that was discovered and simply installed in the mothership? In Homeworld, the mothership and its escort fleet together jumped vast distances yet apparently now only the Mothership is capable of doing this?

Actually, the one in the Mothership itself is a scaled-up copy of the Khar-Toba drive. The 3 hyperspace cores look to be a key component in a tran-galactic hyperspace drive.
Since if the Kushan are the descendants of the progenitors, then humanity comes from another galaxy.
