Weird lagging

Post by DarthBlight »

It seems every so often my computer wants to start reacting slow to my commands, even shutting down and restarting. I thought it was just me being a little too fast for AOL to finish ending all its processes, but now it is happening again even after I gave AOL plenty of time. Any ideas?

Look in the stickies, get Hijackthis, and post the log here. I'll see what I can do. :)

I think I can get rid of the Yahoo! crap, but I want to make sure. I let a friend of mine install Yahoo on my computer so he could get a DSL account going (we didn't know all he had to do was go in and log on to activate the account). Other than that, I don't know. Also, I have uninstalled AOL for the time being for a possible rollback to 8.0.

You can kill the Yahoo crap, but kill this too:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [UpdReg] C:\WINDOWS\Updreg.exe

It's a nag reminder to 'register' (give all personal info about you short of your dick size and Social Security Number so they can spam and telemarket you till you die) the soundcard to Creative. Get rid of it posthaste. :)

Oher than that, Your House Is Clear...

How about NetZero/Juno? They're $9.99/month last I heard, and they seem to have everything AOL does.

Ahh... no. You don't want NZ or Juno. Spyware on both counts, plus you look at ads and STILL PAY FOR THEM!!!

Bellsouth is good. Nice and reliable (well that's quite a relative term, especially since this is dialup we're talkin about!) and pretty cheap.

AOL? May as well pay twice as much for a Cable connection so fast you won't know what to do with all that bandwidth!
