PC problem

Ok, so I am using Creative Lab speakers and I sometimes have a problem. On certain CD's and games, when base sounds I get a little static. It's worse on some CD's and games than others, but I am wondering what I can do about it.

Your onbound sound implementation sucks. Get a better sound card.

Hah, that's peanuts compared to the setup at work. My speakers are getting radio stations even when turned off :P

As a rule of mine, anything onboard automatically sucks.

Bad rule to go by. Onboard sound often sucks, but doesn't always - case in point, the nForce2-based sound system. Onboard video usually sucks, though onboard LAN can be quite good (e.g. Intel LAN wired to the northbridge or 3Com chipsets).

Though to get good sound quality (i.e. for recording) you usually need some sort of external box that doesn't have a huge S/N ratio like onboard cards do - whether on the motherboard or in a PCI slot.

Sounds like you might have actually blown the speakers. Regular speakers don't reproduce low-end sound to well. That's why they made the 2.1 system, for those who want decent bass (I assume you mean bass, as in sound) but not a full 4.1 system.

Trying lowering your bass to 0 and see if anymore static comes out of the speakers.

It could also be an issue of too much amplification at the sound card end. If the signal is boosted enough at the back end and then the speakers amplify it even more: distortion can occur.
