Starlancer

Post by Sarevok »

I purchased Starlancer yesterday. I liked the game a lot. Already I am at mission 12, an amazing achievment but actualy it was easy since I am a long time fan of space fighter based games. So any strategies or tips on how to win the game ?
I have to tell you something everything I wrote above is a lie.

Just be fast on the trigger, watch out your buddies (the big ships and Karl Steiner), the missions where you need to blow up torpedoes are the hard ones.

My only complaint is, it was short.

The AI is stupid. Heavy fighters are best in SP. Lots of dumb fire missiles
+ a fighters with many gun = wolverine. You can will really fast with this one.

I found blind fire mode very effective. That way my guns are automaticaly alligned. That way even torpedoes can be easily taken out.

BTW how do you use the rear guns ?

You don't, they're controled by your co-pilot, though I never saw them firing anywhere in the game, by any of the parties.

Well, I was shot for treason because I overshot and took out a friendly capship instead of the torp.

The last mission is a bitch. Took me forever to complete it.

And if you play Freelancer, you'll know from the intro just what all of your hard work got the Alliance into....

I think that only happened once or twice, I always get between the torps and the capship, the problem is when they come from different directions, its a workout trying to zip from one place to another, while at the same time trying to find out which one is the nearest. I hate those missions.
In several times I died from the explosion of the torpedo. (Yeah, it was THAT close!)

(Of course, with the fast-locking missiles, the work is cut in half, but still tough, specially the last mission.)

It's unfortunate they didn't proceed with add-on missions and the like, the graphics were good for the time, and there was a lot of elbow room for missions, but with the emphasis on Freelancer...
And I'll never forgive them, for not having the single-player option of fighting on the Commie side!

The game kept crashing to desktop on me at the mission where you are flying the stolen Kamovs. It would ALWAYS happen on that mission, but you never knew WHEN it would happen.

Have you ever been shot for accidentally ramming into a highly classified black box that you were supposed to retrieve? I did that. I was looking for that black box then I saw this blinking piece of debris coming towards me. Only to realize a little too late that it was the black box and well I got zapped. :)
