I finally switched; Mozilla kicks ass!
Well, after being sick and tired of IE's bullshit, and an ill-conceived attempt at using the windows port of Lynx, I finaly switched to Mozilla. And you guys were right: it makes IE look even shittier than it managed to on its own.
Yes, I know, you guys tell everyone to switch often enough (thanks Ein!) but one just doesn't realize how shitty IE is until they actually take the plunge.
Like I said, thanks for the advice everyone, indirect or not.

I tried to use Mozilla, but I didn't like it one bit. Opera for me.

Incorrect. It does of CSS2, but only bits and pieces.kojikun wrote:As long as you're not using IE, you're doing good. Fucking IE ain't damned W3C compliant. No CSS2.. pisses me off.
As for bookmarks, just copy your [insert profile directory here]/bookmarks.html file to a safe place, and put it back if bookmarks get nuked.

Well, I never trusted IE with my bookmarks, so I've always just had a table of links as my homepage, so I'm not worried.

I use mozilla because some of the site I use didn't work with IE but some of the site don't render properly in Mozilla so I keep IE handy. Itried using Netscape which you would think is just like mozilla but it is considerably worse in function and they don't even know how to access their website for plugins when Mozilla does, go figure.

Not to mention that the entire interface is skinnable so if you don't like the way it looks, make your own skin.phongn wrote:That's because Mozilla is the successor to Netscape Navigator and forms the basis for Netscape 6 & 7. IE uses the file system to manage the bookmarks. Each bookmark is a shortcut pointing to the site.Psycho Smiley wrote:Well, I never trusted IE with my bookmarks, so I've always just had a table of links as my homepage, so I'm not worried.
So if your bookmarks get trashed you normally have more problems than just IE acting up (ie hhd problems, viruses, etc)

Same here with the Opera.. I find the Netscape look very displeasing aesthetically, as well as layout-wise. [shrugs] I prefer the nice customizable Opera.. except for certain sites (re: LiveJournal journal customization; Opera doesn't like it much).

Firebird is somewhat customizable with the button positions, and what buttons are on the toolbar.

Firebird is at least as customizable as Opera, and as a bonus its free as in beer, speech, and anything else you'd like to add, and *always* will be. You can't say the same about Opera, which could discontinue "free" banner support tomorrow. I've got my Firebird configured to look about identical to IE, which took about 45 seconds of moving buttons around. That's using the default skin. Hundreds of others are available.

Well, the other thing I like about it is that it's only got one toolbar thingy, and I can have multiple windows open that I can go through by clicking little file tabs up at the top.

I love the tab feature, it's a lot more convient than switching between whole windows (I'm just lazy like that).

aronkerkhof- It would look even more like IE if you installed the IE theme... then again, IE(XP) is ugly.
I have the tabbed browsing extension installed, and there are many other extensions to improve the feature set.

Really? Hmm.. Oh, well. Matter of preference then. I still don't like Mozilla. Course, Opera still has its disadvantages, but I like the skins for it, too, hehe.phongn wrote:Firebird and Mozilla have had tabbed browsing for some time.verilon wrote:Well, the other thing I like about it is that it's only got one toolbar thingy, and I can have multiple windows open that I can go through by clicking little file tabs up at the top.
That, and I never really noticed the part on Opera telling how many images are left to download by itself on Mozilla.. and I rather like the download window on Opera, as well.

Yeah, but I wanted it to look enough like IE so my wife wouldn't notice, and so far, mission accomplished. See, I tried to switch us to Mozilla about two years ago, and it was a disaster, so I'm sneaking it in this time.Pu-239 wrote:aronkerkhof- It would look even more like IE if you installed the IE theme... then again, IE(XP) is ugly.

As far as tabbed browsing, the build I got came with it by default. I wouldn't have thought such a minor change would influence my browsing habits, but man has it ever.
