I'm considering upgrading Windows...
...from Windows 98 to Win2000 or WinXP. My major problem is this: I have an old A3D sound card, and if the newer versions of Windows are going to have problems with it, I'd rather hold off until I can just buy a new system. I'm also not sure how much of a benefit I'd see anyways. Should I do it, or wait and just buy a new system?

Remember folks, the very first thing you should do if you're not sure about some operating system's support for you old legacy card is to check for new drivers. Usually they'd be found on the website of your card's manufacturer. However, if you're using a no-name OEM card, you're going to have to do a little hunting. First, find if there is a serial number/model number on your board. If there isn't, then check the main chip on your board (the DSP chip in the case of a soundcard or a modem) and copy the part number off of that. Then go to Google and put in your hard-won part number. Believe it or not, this often works at tracking down the newest drivers for your no-name generic board.
