Medieval: Total War question

Post by Captain tycho »

Will Medieval: Total War run without a graphics card?
I'm asking this because I happened to be browsing the software section of Target the other day and saw MTW just sitting all alone on a shelf. So of course I picked it up and read the back. And put it back down without reading the requirements. It looks like a good game, but I would like some more info before burning 40 bucks of my cold, hard cash.

Also, of course, is the question critical to any game inquiry-is it any fucking good, or am I just gonna waste my money?

Ehh?

You need a grapics card to see what's on the screeen...

The game is quite good imho but $/£40 seems an avful lot for it, it is an old game and should be in the bargin bin or sumthing.

Be careful about Target's prices, they often keep them up for a good amount of time.

Anyways, if you have an onboard-the-motherboard video card it's unlikely to play well.

For the really big battles...you will need a shit hot computer....when your throwing about tens of thousands of units at a time...things get messy ;)

but yes...if real time medieval war strategy is your thing..then this is a definate...

I'd look around though...it seems alot to pay for it considering a/ it's age...and b/ you can also get the addon with it for less than that iirc

You should be able to get by with any card past the days of the TNT2 but anything earlier and you're SOL in any tactical battle. as to whether to play it or not...PLAY IT. Its a great game that mixes diplomacy, religon (including the ability to send out crusades), and cold hard fighting steel.

The diplomacy model (and the trading model) probably need some more work but it definately got improved with the latest patch (about 8 months ago IIRC). Also the sheer unit variety and historical accuracy make for a VERY interesting game.
