Jedi Academy performance problem

OK, I recently picked up Jedi Academy. Only problem is that my FPS shoots down to 1-3 whenever a lightsaber is in contact with something else. I've fooled around with the graphics options a bunch with no relevant results, and I have the latest DirectX and video drivers. I've never been very happy with my GeForce4 Ti4200, it likes to be a real bitch in various games so I suspect its at fault here as well. Anyone know of this problem or any way to fix it?

Check your advanced display properties. See if the card is running in PCI or AGP mode. You may need to get new drivers for your motherboard.

PCI. No recent relevant patches for my mobo, either.

Ah ha. See, now, it should be running in AGP mode. Download the latest drivers for your motherboard and install them. Use this thread for help.

Well, I feel stupid. Anyways, thanks a bazillion... didn't even realize it wasn't running in AGP.

Don't feel stupid, heck, I didn't even realize my card was doing the same until I remarked about how slow HW2 seemed to be running when the demo came out. Fortunately, that set me straight. ;)

Thanks. While that certainly increased overall performance, it didn't help with the lightsaber thing. Oddly enough, in multiplayer I have no problems at all. Is there some kind of saber effect setting exclusive to single player, other than the ones in options?

Dunno. Could be sound-card related. Have you tried the Jedi Academy forums?

Those saber decals are a drain on my GF3. Could turning them off help?

Errmm...I think this was addressed on the support forums...
I may be wrong, but I believe you need to go in game to Video->more video and turn off wall flashes, and (Dynamic lightning?) I think...try that, should help.

All that stuff is off. Aside from the minor performance boost, no change.
