No, but I do know that it ruins pretty much all of the old Castlevania timeline, and that it takes place 400 years before Vlad Tepes was born. That's why I don't like the game. But I haven't played it so I don't know if it's good.

The game is pretty much about the origin of the "Vampire Killer" whip that all the Belmonts use in the other games. Unfortunately, it rewrites part of the Castlevania timeline in the process (specifically, by adding some details to Dracula's origin which really didn't need to be there -- I'm guessing this is to give later games something to do in the years between this and the first Castlevania if they continue). Apart from this, though, it fits surprisingly well with the series.
Gameplay-wise, "Lament" plays more like a 3D version of the original Castlevania (or perhaps Castlevania IV for the SNES) than SotN -- there are very few RPG elements. Gaining additional health and hearts is via obtaining items ala Zelda (there's no leveling), giving a real disincentive for fighting. The number of "trap rooms" where you're forced to fight, though, are ridiculous. Controls are pretty good (despite no lock-on), and there's even an option to use the Japanese voices (though voice acting in English is significantly improved from SotN). There's a hidden character, as per usual, but he isn't developed very much at all in the main game, which kind of removes the "cool" value from using him. Certainly much, much better than the Nintendo 64 Castlevanias were, but it's not another SotN or Aria of Sorrow. This game is more for action fans than RPG and platformer fans, IMHO.
