Flickering LCD

Since last Friday, I noticed my LCD, on a laptop so new it is still under warranty, is flickering (dimming for a few moments.)

It gets worse at higher brightness settings, and if I'm using battery power along with that, the flickering can be seen on a white page very regularly.

I suspect some kind of hardware problem. Maybe the backlighting tubes are dying. I don't have time to bring it in the shop today, and in any case, I want awhile to backup my vital files (like my Homework) somewhere safe, say a CD.

I'd scrape up my sales slips and other stuff and bring it in the shop Thursday morning. I want it to last until the end of my semester, and I'd take it in after my Exams, but I don't think it is going to make it. If you guys have any other ideas, I'd like very much to know.

Thank you very much in advance.

In the worst case, if the LCD fails you can hook it up to a monitor and use it that way. That will at least allow you to copy your files over before taking it in to be serviced.
