Does anyone else do this?

When playing computer games of any sort, I get what can only be described a some sort of death with. I often set up situations where I can't possibly win. I do it nine times out of ten. I never win. I can't explain why.

Does anyone else get this?

Sometimes, if at the end of a level (of a FPS for instance) I didn't fare too well, took too many shots, used up too much ammo, etc, I'll kill myself and try all over from the start. This is the case even if it doesn't carry over to the next level (as is the case in Mafia, or Jedi Outcast).

I don't know why I do it. But I don't exactly understand your death wish thing.

It's fun to get a ton of stars in GTA sometimes.

Only really in GTA.

Tactical games i create the ultimate base and let the enemy send wave after wave of units that get destroyed by it, very satisfying.

It happens. Although it's more often due to me being a little too curious...

I shooters it's always fun to go with the melee weapon if available. Even against tough enemies. (Or in Quake 2 where a friend and I had a "Who can kill Makron with the Blaster Pistol fastest?" competition.)

In RPG's I often try to tackle the secret megaboss with a way too unprepared party. I still remember the "Ooh! What's that?" to "What? Dead already?" moment when I found Ruby Weapon in FF7. Became a habit after that.

And of course Shogun. The "How few units do I need to kill a full army of Samurai Archers?" can be fun. I believe the fewest I got was 4-6 Kensai groups. (more and the Archers ran away)

Honorable mention goes to GTA: Vice City. 6 stars and a moped. (And surviving it!) Good fun.

Rise of Nations. Hard. No slowing down of the game. 1 Laptop. 45 minutes. 1 Newbie.

Result: Total destruction, with a last stand at Newcastle, as the Aztec stormed in with a horde of tanks, artillery and helicopters, to find 2 knights, a catapult and 7 pissed off villagers waiting for them. I have never actually been more attached to any unit in a game than those 10 units, I'd evacuated them from my other cities as they fell and mustered them in Newcastle as the civilisation crumbled into ruin. Epics have been written for less, and I had a bloody good time.

Hehe, you were in the Medieval ages while they had helicopters?

In FPSes, I have a bad habit of charging headfirst into the enemy... CS, running right into a crowd of people then getting nailed. TFC, where I swear rockets were homing me (Although in TFC it's a bit better, since one can actually take on several opponents at the same time)

Starcraft... I had a bad habit of expanding too late only to find out I had been fenced in, and eventually ran out of resources.

Yeh, picked a bad time to improve on my building strategy, as I said, major newbie, and had just nocticed that the best way to avoid being nuked severely was to build everything in the city as far apart as possible, but while I was doing this, and was still on fast mode, the AI was busy preparing to kick my ass seven ways to sunday... :)

I sometimes listen to mp3s while playing at the same time. Anyone else do this?

On the subject: In FPS's the only reason I rush into a room of opponents is to kill them all in a blaze of gunfire and hear them curse their hearts out at me. :P

Or sometimes I rush, say an awper, to take him out, since rushing is really the only way to take one out.

So usually everything I do I do it for a reason. Most of the time.

There is nothing more satisfying than having the last stand in an assault situation on the likes of avp2 or the good 'ol days of tfc....holding the last door with your heavy assault cannon spitting out a halo of bullets into the middle of a rush...well...it was a heart warming sight...ofcourse...you get nailed by the spy with the dagger.. but damn do you make them Suffer.

Yep, cos nothing beats Homeworld 2 and the Pirates of the Carribean sound track, or anything naval sounding, but with the Johhny Depp on mast bit playing as your battleship begins to advance towards the enemy fleet playing, you can almost hear the cannons roar...
