Nokia N-Gage hacked

For those that haven't seen this:

Mr. Link

The gist of this is that people have hacked the N-Gage encryption scheme and have posted images of the games online. This not only allows easy piracy of N-Gage games (thanks to the universal SD Memory cards used), but also the games are playable on ANY Symbian OS phone.

It seems to me that this is the final nail in the N-Gage's coffin. Sure, it was probably dead before, but now the platform will be even more abhorent to developers (if that is even possible) which will kill any potential software licenses. Goodbye N-Gage, we hardly knew ya.

N-Gate was Nokia's attempt to muscle into the portable game machine market. It had numerous flaws, such as the placement of came carts behind the batteries, the cell-phone function required that you place the phone on your ears in a taco-like fashion. Oh yeah, it was also pretty pricey compared to the GBA/GBA SP.

Even CNN made fun of the N-Gage, that should tell you enough about it.

Gabe and Tycho despise the thing, and the display units I saw in Gamespot made me dry-heave. Sucks arse.

I'll take my Afterburner-modded GBA, thanks.

If i wanted portable gaming i'll buy a Gameboy Advanced, If i wanted a mobile phone i'd buy a proper nokia. Nokia forgot the old saying "The jack of all trades is the master of none".

To it's credit, it does come with a headset, so you can avoid the taco thing.

Unfortately(for it), The games still suck(it can't even get GBA games(like Sonic N) right), and, even with the $100 rebate, it's pricey compared to the X-box, not to mention the GBA and/or 'Cube. In fact, for the same price as an N-gage, you can get a GBA(SP) and a Gamecube(and if you wait until the Cube/Zelda bundle comes out, you even get better games than the entire N-gage's library combined)!

(The Zelda bundle is a GC, plus a disc with The Legend of Zelda, Zelda II, Ocarina of Time, a demo of Wind Waker and maybe Majora's Mask, but I'm not sure.)
