Looks normal, right?
Until you consider the fact that my floppy drive isn't plugged into the motherboard or PSU...

bios says it has to be there so obviously it's working fine.

I think windows just looks at your bios settings and does not bother making sure if there really is a floppy. Or is that just 9x?

Maybe it really is there, but it's invisible or in another dimension, or something...

Well, my floppy drive is hooked up, but Windows refuses to recognize it. Maybe it's my drive that your computer is detecting...

Scröder's FDD related to his cat and Schöoder's PCI mouse as well.

Looks like its reading your BIOS for the drive instead of actually trying to detect one on its own....

I guess you could always just disable the device if it bothers you.

Rhodium Edge is the skin.

Dalton, what happens if you boot into safe mode and delete it?

Guys, I haven't rebooted since I've shown you that problem - but when my new FDD comes in the mail, I'll give y'all a status update.
Gagme: That is indeed XP, as Vertigo confirmed. Phong called it right; it's the Rhodium Edge third-party skin with the StyleXP DLL hack (the free one).

I used to use Rhodium Edge (IIRC, the author released it first on the ArsTechnica boards) but have since switched to Watercolor XP (akin to the beta Whistler screenshots)

I got my new FDD today, and I think the reason why the old one stopped working was that the FDD was backwards. So now the new one's in, the cable's the right way round and the floppy drive works perfectly.
I've also put the DVD-ROM on the secondary mobo IDE port and PowerDVD has stopped locking up.

Is there a free StyleXP? I can only find the shareware one.

I've had floppy cables that were wired
backwards. It was most annoying to have to flip the cable over (thank goodness you can insert them either way, unlike hard drive cables).
