So Knights of the Old Republic is out today. Anybody getting it?

Looks pretty good from the reviews of the X-Box version and the previews of the PC version.

Can anyone describe what the combat system is going to be like? I'm just getting turn-based from the previews, any similarities to other RPGs?

Well x-box was in dire need of a patch, so I hope that they fixed the cad game and got rid of the crashes when you flew around in the space ship

From what I've read, it is near identical to Neverwinter Nights, which means the action is real-time, but it calcualtes your moves and success in a turn-based fashion, using a version of 3rd ed D20 rules. The only real difference, AFAIK, from NWN in style of gameplay is the camera angle.

I understand that KOTOR is set way before the actual SW saga. What's the storyline? Is it interesting? What's the game about?

It's set sometime around the period of the Great Sith War 4000 years ago.

Uh...without spoiling anything. Giant War between the Republic and the Sith, and quite interesting.

It takes place about 40 years after the war with Mandalorians and Exar Kun(so ~4000-3950 years before ANH)

Hows does it compare to Jedi Academy in terms of Jedi Powers and Lightsaber moves?

I wasn't that impressed with the game. First off, the main character (spoiler ahead)

isn't even a jedi, not at first anyway, he's a soldier of the republic, I thought actually it would be an action game, not an RPG, the shots on the commercial seem to say so, maybe they were trying to deceive you into believing it was, good thing I only rented it.

As an RPG though how is it?

Just because you were lead to believe that it was an action game and not an RPG doesn't make it bad.

It is as mentioned like NWN but with Star Wars D20 rules.

Very good(sue me I'm biased...beaten the bloody thing seven times each with a different starter class and jedi class most of the times...I've tried a good many of the combos...all but two)

And the story flows better then most...my only complaint is that some planets have more to do then others...and none are quite as immense as the first.

I've been wanting this game for the longest time. I only hope that my computer can handle it.

Hey, does anyone know how I can get Windows to tell me what kind of graphics card and stuff I have installed?

Fuckers indeed.

as for systems specs...it basically wants a 1 GHZ, 256 RAM, 4 Gig HDD space, and the rest of the package.

Not too bad....but I'm a little eh that the graphics aren't that much more then X-Box...ah well...30 more hours till Malak is screaming Uncle again.

Oh, I know what the specs are, I looked them up on the Lucasarts website. What I want to know is my computer can meets those. It's about two years old now and it didn't exactly have a top of the line graphics card or anything when it was new, either. So my being able to run it is far from a given. :(

I won't be getting it on PC because I have it on the X-Box, and my comp isn't up to the required specs.

Oh and a nit pick someone said it was 40 years after the madalore wars it is only 4 years after the madalore wars. The game is truly addictive and tons of fun, I like going the evil route and making everyone suffer....

Got it today, played it pretty heavily and I'm thoroughly enjoying it.

The massive levels are fun, but the part I'm on seems to lack in imagination. I won't go into detail about that, as it's a spoiler. This part of the game also seems really slow and repetative. :( I'm sure it will improve, however, so I don't mind.

Character advancement is great, although I keep getting points toward dark-side alignment. :angelic:

I think the combat system could use one or two tweaks, but it's otherwise great. I love being able to pause and issue orders to my "team" before having the action play out.
