What is the difference between the male and female psychologies that seems to produce more male gamers than female gamers?

More testosterone would be my main guess as to why there are more action-oriented male gamers. FPSs and the like are good relievers of stress.

On another note, you'd be surprised as to the numbers of female gamers in less action-oriented games, like MMORPGs.

Or the number of females who could be males pretending to be females. This has come up at least once in every online game I've ever played.

Well, there's that of course, but after awhile you can generally tell, particularly if they're active on forums for the game.

I'm sorry if I sound stereotypical here, but men are less sociable than women, as a whole, and gaming is a way for guys to be sociable without really being sociable. :P

At the risk of me-too'ing... You are totally right. :)

More games are designed for males, hence more male players.

Perhaps women are smarter and don't waste time on games.

I used to be a rabbid gamer and lost 2 jobs and one relationship because of that. Same story for one of my friends.

I have never met a woman that lost a job for a game.

And before you ask the game was medievia, it is a MUD wery active and addactive.

I sometimes prefer games to real life. Life is boring, and graphics intensive. :?

On what do you base that? While, as a whole, men are less likely to seek help for their problems, that doesn't mean that they're less sociable than women.

Men are more competitive. One reason why.

Let's also be careful to differentiate between console gamers and PC gamers. Consoles are geared more toward a real social setting, despite the fact that split-screen sucks balls for multi-player from a playability standpoint. From a social standpoint though, it fosters interaction much more readily. Everyone's in the same room and can talk trash face-to-face, in real-time.

A PC gamer, on the other hand, is more likely to be an anti-social geek because he gets his social fix online. Either way, the two are totally different animals. The guy who plays games on his PS2 probably wouldn't have a clue as to how to install CounterStrike on a PC.

God forbid we have hobbies that don't involve being around other people!

I asked that same question one day to a female gamer. She told me because imagine being in a game with over 5000 geeks, nerds or whatever you call them, that doesn't have agirlfriend or been with a girl for a matter of fact. They would hit on her all the time etc. So some females make act like a guy to stop that from happening.

That's true. :D Remember back then before the mods put a stop to it, regarding Zaia and the others? :P

Guys like the action games a lot more than girls, and the gaming industry is really tuned into that.

Not to mention guys are just more agressive and violent than the vast majority of women. It's the same reason that guys still consitute the majority of the military. We're wired to be more agressive.

Of course there are exception. Half the DoD League regulars here at college are girl and a lot of them are better at it.

This is very true. It's like, now, if some guys that know each other either from real life or from the net that play together, games like cs and quake are still loads of fun, but they're still absolutely nothing compared to wapping goldeneye in an N64 and fighting your friends on a dingy little monitor. Then there's always fighting games like DOA2, which just aren't made for the online world or pc gaming at all.
