Neverwinter Nights Help Needed

I just bought NWN (it was on sale at Target for $9.95) and I got it home only to discover that it won't run on my machine. When doing the character generation sequence, it hangs the system when you click on the "customize" button - and you can't start the game without customizing your character. So I'm kind of really rather irritated over the whole deal and wondering what I can do to fix it.
My system specifications:
Intel Centrino mobile technology
Pentium M 1300 MHz processor
256 MB RAM
30 GB hard drive (10 GB free)

1. Graphics Card and Driver information is crucial
2. Did you update the game to the latest patch before you started playing?
3. Did you check Bioware's Technical FAQ first?

1. Video card is an ATI Radeon 7500 AGP (mobile version) with 32 MB video RAM, running DirectX 9.0b
2. Yes.
3. I did after I tried to play and it wasn't helpful.

UPDATE: Neverwinter Nights is now working properly, as I have updated and patched my video driver, my DirectX software, NWN itself and my cat.
Well, all except the cat part.
