Thats a damned shame they single handedly revitalized computer RPG's with Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale.

Fallout 3 was canned in favour of making shitty shooters with the Fallout name tagged on. I hope Interplay go bankrupt, and it looks like that wish is going to be fulfilled.

DA2 is safe; it's Interplay's child and being developed by Snowblind Studios.
But that's depressing.

Well, that's the worst news I've heard all day. Not as bad as when Sir-tech or especially Looking Glass went under, but a parade pisser none the less.

This reminds me when the B5 sim was cancelled. One of those games that I so desperately wanted to play - GONE never to be seen again.

BG was not made by BIS, it was published by BIS.

Well that sucks. Kinda like when Looking Glass got closed down.
The video game industry is run by bean counters not gamers, that is sad.

I hope this happens to Blizzard North, so South can take over development for Dii patches and actually balance the fucking game

Great trend starting here. Let's just close down all the GOOD development houses and start up shitty ones to make liscened games that will sell millions of copies anyways. FUCK!

If Interplay goes under it'll free up the fallout licence.
The bulk of Black Isle's staff (people that would be familiar with the SPECIAL system and left Black Isle because they were denyied the opportunity to make Fallout 3) have gone to work for Bioware.
Bioware has some pretty nice game engines under it's belt.
While the likelyhood of Bioware taking on Fallout 3 is minimal at best, it is possible that we might see some games along similar lines coming from them in the future.
On a slightly unrelated note, Interplay going under would also free up the Freespace licence.

It was an internal job at Black Isle.
Snowblind are making Chapmions of Norrath for Sony Online Studios.
I know that some of the former BIS staffers have already found work somewhere, and are working on exciting and new things.
Maybe some of them are over at Obsidian?

Interplay is bleeding cash at the moment (something like $20 million in the red). Some of BIS's projects were late ... and, well, they got canned.

True, but Black Isle were Interplay's sole remaining profitable division.
Unless Galleon ever gets released, and isn't just Tomb Raider with Pirates, Interplay no longer have any product

I think Interplay's pretty much finished, and part of me says "good riddance". They were great in their heyday, but they've been cancelling and mangling good games for years now.
