Strange thing with my computer.

Something odd has been happening to my computer lately.

If I try and install and a game, it says things like "Not enough disk space, or bad sectors" But, I had at least 4.5gigs, and even after I delete another gig, it still comes up with the error.

Today I tried to save a game I was playing, but it said "disk is full" even though I have 5gigs free.

Any suggestions?

You did a disk scan yet? It could be bad sectors.........

the other problem could be mine. I had a virus infect my hard disk once, it filled up all the HD space. When I finally noticed it and tried to solve the problem, the disk finally went kaput and died.

Are you using separate partitions for your operating system and your data? It could be that Windows is trying to unpack files into temp. space on your OS partition and running out of room.

Check where your TEMP directory is set to, it may not be on the largest partition.

I've been wanting to know how to change that for ages, how can you?

Depends on your OS.

If you do a disk scan, you'll probably find out either that
1) the OS is reporting the free space wrong, and the game thinks you have 0 disk pace
2) the OS is reporting the free space wrong, and you REALLY have 0 disk space, but you think you have.

I think it's bad sectors also, but ScanDisk never actually finishes scanning.
It starts scanning, and gets to a certain point, but then it starts again, and after a couple of tries it comes up with the error that another programme is using the drive, even after I've closed everything else.

What exactly are seperate partitions?

Try using the enditall program to shut down anything that might be running in the background that you don't know about before doing that scan. You might also consider intentionally setting off a scandisk on boot by shutting down your computer without going to shutdown in the start menu. If it keeps restarting there, you've certainly got some problems on your hands.
