War Of The Ring install problem

Post by Darksider »

I'm having trouble getting LOTR: War Of The Ring to work right.

The only thing on my computer that dosen't match up is that I don't have
"Video T&L Support". As a non computer savvy person, I have no idea what the hell that means. (I'd assume it's somthing with my video card.) Anyone here who can tell me what I need to get the game up and running?

If I'm not terribly mistaken it means your graphics card has no hardware Transform&Lighting (T&L). So you will have to get a card which can, as you won't be able to play without T&L support, I'm afraid...

What card do you currently use?

It's the one that came with my computer.

Give me a second to check.

I can't find anything about it. The only things I can tell you are that it dosen't have T&L support, and it's around the 32MB range.

Well, I'm not living over there, so I don't know any US locations for cards, but a low-end ATI or GeForce would do the trick. They have all T&L (IIRC), became sort-of standard for graphics cards some time back...

Hm... weird.
You should definitely look what card you have... It *is* a real card, and not just a built-in graphics chip on yourmotherboard?

It might be a built in chip.
Since most of the games I play are pretty old anyway, I never really checked.

You could take a look in your device manager...

I'm not really certain how to open my device manager. I havn't looked in it in over three years and my old computer had WIN 98. I'm sure it's pretty similar in XP so just give me a second.

Go to the control panel, double-click on "system" (Or right-click on "My Computer, then click "properties"), go to the "hardware" slider, click on "device manager".

(Sorry about having to take baby steps here, but I never really learned how do do alot of complex things with a computer, and the few I did learn I learned years ago on a different OS)

I'm looking in the device manager, but I can't find anything regarding my Video card or chip.

It's the "display adapters" entry.

And I do IT support as part-time job, so I know the feeling :D

I've got it.

It's an "Intel 82845G/GL Graphics controller."

I'm gonna take a wild guess and say that that's a chip, rather than a card.

Yepp :)
That should be one of the Intel Xtreme Graphics chip (though what's extreme is beyond me :) )
So better go, and buy yourself a new card. Should work wonders.
