C&C Zero Hour bitching

Post by Brother-Captain Gaius »

Similar to my Generals bitching thread of some time ago... here I'm gonna bitch about crap in multiplayer Zero Hour.

Anyways, the balancing is a bit better than it was, but I played a couple of quickmatches online and I discovered some real good BS. So far I like the USAF general and the GLA demolitions general so I played a game of each. First time around as USAF against China infantry general wasn't so bad, but ended quickly because the other guy blitzed around two of the detector/transport rigs filled with minigunners and tank hunters. So, they killed the whopping single stealth fighter I managed to get (was running two Chinooks right from the start plus one oil derrick). The map was not very defensible and he just drove them around the few Patriots I'd built and blew up my base, as everything I could throw at him was countered easily by his troop combo (my infantry were slaughtered by the minigunners and my plane and Commanches were toated instantly by all the RPGs)... so I lost that round pretty fast.

Second round was much more retarded. I was GLA demolitions versus USA superweapon... but silly old me was expecting my opponent to grab a particle cannon early on, little did I realize the only reason he picked superweapon was for the upgraded Auroras. This, combined with the fact that it was that god-map with 16 oil derricks and 4 refineries (we each had half pretty much from the start), meant he was literally invincible. Being demolitions, it was to my advantage to blitz stuff like crazy as constantly as I could; this I did. I pumped out nearly non-stop combat cycles and suicided everything I could, trying to concentrate on his oil-derrick mass and I did manage to knock a couple out. For all the good it did me. While I was doing this he built up massive hordes of upgraded Humvees with Hellfire drones which kept me busy and unable to concentrate on precision suicide attack (only had time to send them off on attack in his general direction). From all the attacks I had amassed a considerable field of Stinger sites (he was pretty clumsy, and often didn't get to finish off the resulting GLA holes), scattered everywhere in my base and concentrated on attack points. Later on his attacks were frequently stopped pretty fast by one or two combat cycles blowing up most of his Humvees in one blow.

Of course, Humvees weren't all he was building. As I said earlier, the only reason he took superweapons was for the Auroras. From the infinite money provided by the oil derricks which by then I was unable to effectively disable, he just built about 5 or 6 airfields and pumped them full of Auroras. He'd then blow all my shit up on a whim. The Auroras are literally invulnerable before they deliver their payload, and the upgraded ones have a double-blast effect which will first kill the building and then the secondary explosion will kill the GLA hole. So they could kill anything I had pretty damn easily. But here's the kicker: not a single Aurora ever returned to base. Every single one was shot down as soon as it was vulnerable. My Stingers completely annihilated all of them. But he had infinite money, so he just kept sending them. I didn't though, 'cuz all my oil derrricks, supply stashes, and black markets were blasted by a few suicidal Auroras.

I technically "lost" the match, but his casualties were fucking insane. His Humvee hordes were literally killed by a few combat cycles. 4 or 5 of them down in one explosion. Jesus. I was under the impression that the US required at least some minimal ability at finesse and precision. This guy literally just brute forced his way around without even trying. I wish I could know the map before agreeing to a quickmatch...

Ugh.
