Question about installing a sound card
I just installed creative's 4.1 sound card (I have their 4.0 speaker setup). Here is what I want to know.
Why the heck are my MP3's skipping now? When they play, they actually skip! How can I fix this?

Re: Question about installing a sound card
It's probably Creative's drivers. Creative Labs has a long and sordid history of shitty drivers. Some of their early LiveWare drivers were so fucking atrocious that they would actually hose an NT install.Superman wrote:I just installed creative's 4.1 sound card (I have their 4.0 speaker setup). A codec is a piece of software, not something you would install or uninstall in the BIOS menu. You must be messing up your terminology.Superman wrote:Oh, I think I uninstalled the audio codec in the BIOS menu. Could that have an effect?
It also occurred to me that it might be some kind of IRQ problem.

If you're using Winamp, go to the plugins directory and delete any Creative Nomad DLLs that are in there (these are added automatically by the Live! and Audigy driver sets; they're usually named gen_nomad.dll). Those royally screw over MP3 playback with no real gain.
