I think my machine is suffering from windoze rot. It's moving sloowly. I just defragged my disk and did some clean up and it's still crawling. Is there anyway to improve performance w/o wiping the dis and/or getting more ram?

Praytell, how do you debug without access to the program sources?

Anyway, the easiest way to improve performance is to remove useless programs that run in the background. If you run Internet Explorer (and especially if you've ever browsed a pornsite using it), then the chances are that you have a shitload of adware/spyware installed on your computer.

http://security.kolla.se has Spybot Search & Destroy, which can scan for and remove that shit.

Have you tried regclean yet? It's a small, free microsoft program that removes useless leftovers from your registery.

Google should give you plenty of download locations.

Anyway, my previous suggestion stands. You probably have a lot of stuff running in the background, even if it's not spyware. Start>Run>msconfig, then just look for stuff that you don't use and uncheck it. Stuff like Winamp Agent, OCR background processes, etc...

There's a lot of overlap.

I've used it in win98, win2k and winXP without any problems.
