Love it. Still playing it.Straha wrote:A. Did you like the game
Maybe improve the tactical engine (allow more flexibility in manuevers and such), and allow greater editing abilities (so you can make new ships and fighters that will show as new in the tactical mode).Straha wrote:B. How would you improve it?
And what's with the "clumsy interface" people complain about? I've had no problems with it at all.

The fact that you have to click 2300 times to do the simplest of actions is what makes the interface suck.RogueIce wrote:And what's with the "clumsy interface" people complain about? I've had no problems with it at all.
I highly enjoy the game, especially the building and re-naming of my capital ships.
I would expand the fleet aspect of the game, give me more control of individual ships and upgrades. Fleet micro-managment hehe.
I would also replace the engine and AI used for the "tactical" game. Im sorry but that engine looked like crap even when the game was released brand new. The AI is shoddy, battles almost always come down to who has the most ships, the maneuvers dont seem to matter at all.

I really enjoyed it, but I spent a lot of time editing it before actually settling with the game, tweaking the ship stats to be proportionate with WEG RPG stats and consistent with what I saw in the movies. The SSD was way too weak-ass in the game.
Plus, the tactical battles were awfully dull and clumsy.
And why the fuck wasn't Mara Jade included as one of the Imp characters, nor was Boba Fett?!

Then you'd probably have to seriously redo the game, especially the tactical side.weemadando wrote:The fact that the Empire only started with ~3 planets shat me to tears.
The Rebels should have started with VERY few planets and had to have played a guerilla strategy game to evade the Empire who should have started with countless planets and fleets...
Unless, of course, getting pushed way out into the rim and having to fight hard for any Core planet is more your thing...but the way the game is now, that would be rather difficult.
And another addition to my list above: get rid of the Bulwark. I don't care if you need something to match the SSD; it's just damned fugly. I would've been happy to stop with the Dauntless than deal with the Bulwark...

I think those complaints were way overexaggerated (sp) in the first place. Even with my shitty-ass mouse I have never had any trouble, nor do I think the clicking around is too "excessive" for the game.

At the start, yeah. It got boring real fast, however.Straha wrote:A. Did you like the game
It was a good idea that suffered from lousy execution. I would improve the tactical engine so that it wouldn't suck. The strategic engine would also be tweaked, so that the interface wouldn't detract from the game. I would introduce a scenario editor if you want to make your own campaign. The main campaign would have the Empire in control over all (or most) of the core systems, but can't dedicate their entire fleet towards the Rebellion's destruction (make it so that all those planets need a garrison and a defence fleet in orbit, which will limit the amount of ships you can send out to the Rim).Straha wrote:B. How would you improve it?
I would also put in new races/factions which control sectors that can cause the Empire or Rebellion major problems, or become potential allies. (The Ssi-Ruvvi, the Chiss, the CSA, Hutts, smugglers/pirates/mercenaries etc) I would also make some sectors hard to navigate in - by this, I mean it takes longer to get around from certain sectors to other places, just to simulate the difficulties of hyperspace travel. In places like the Core, Hyperspace is pretty fast. In the Rim, it takes a little longer, sometimes a lot longer, where applicable.
That's all I can think of right now.

I love the game and still play it to date.
Improvements:
- More Depth in Tactical Combat (ie more micro management :p)
- Better Graphics in Tactical Combat (2d sprites would have been better looking than that shit)
- Tactical land combat with in-depth of above new space combat
- Multiple factions
- Rebellions similar to Total War (ie become seperate factions)
- Timeline set at Post-Endor
- Empire is split into multiple pieces of rebellion at start, this also allows Rebels to build a foothold (admirals/moffs fighting for control)
- Option for bigger scope (sure it adds complexity and time but some like it)
- Ability to design ships/units
- Ability to "design" characters (ala training and grooming them yourself, yes BE that grand admiral :p)
- Real ranking for characters, not just assigned crap
- More detail character system
- Ability to play turn based (allows for PBEM too)
- Better interface (this is a given)
- Easily modable
- Rework of economic system
- Slight more depth in planets
Just a few ideas really...

I like it very much.
Though the tactical engine is something that needs to be improved.
The interface is tedious with its myriad of clicks to perform an action.
The whole spy mission thing is something that needs to be reformed..

The Bulwark was just made due to balancing. Basicly so the Rebels would have something comparable to the SSD. Kind of stupid in my opinion, they should have just had Home One-like ships. I quite liked the Dauntless, looked good

It is a Real-time 4x (loosely) strategy with a real-time tactical starship combat. It has a unique character system and cool planetary bombardment sounds. Most people hate it.

It's an old PC game, and it's not that great, IMHO. It might be worth trying if you can find it a really low cost.Techno_Union wrote:sounds cool, when did it come out and what system is it for? sorry for asking so many questions but would you guys reccomend it, i love those kinds of games but is it cool and fun?

Don't buy it if you can't find it under $10 USD.Techno_Union wrote:sounds cool, when did it come out and what system is it for? sorry for asking so many questions but would you guys reccomend it, i love those kinds of games but is it cool and fun?

It's a good game, put it only really shines in multiplayer, especially when you're playing against another total geek who can make the game challenging in the same room, so you can taunt each other in earshot.

I played it a lot, even though it tried its best to tell me to get stuffed- the interface *does* suck and the tactical combat engine looks horrible. It seriously needs to be redone.

You could do that. Kinda. I had three force-sensitive guys, and I sent them on lots of espionage and assassination missions with Vader. We eventually killed literally 3/4 of the Rebel's personel.Super-Gagme wrote: - Ability to "design" characters (ala training and grooming them yourself, yes BE that grand admiral :p)
They ended up with combat and espionage ratings around 600.

Well I meant like give a guy a name/picture/basic stats and then groom them. So you can have say Grand Admiral Darth Wong with 400 Espionage and 10 Diplomacy or something :pExonerate wrote:You could do that. Kinda.
