I got my new laptop on Sunday! It's 2.8 GHz, with 512 MB DDR SDRAM (whatever the Hell
that means...) and has a 60 GB HD, as well as a freaky CD/DVD/CD-R/DVD-R(not sure on the last) combo thing. And, for the kicker, built in 802.11g wireless! The only problems so far are that the moniter is kinda odd (some of this tect kinda gets lighter every so often) the keyboard (it's ok, I guess, I just gotta get used to it) and the fact that I currently don't have a broadband connection at home, so no wireless hookup (it'll come in ~3-4 weeks).
So, I just get to use it at USF for the moment, and their 11 MBps connection speed. *sigh* Maybe I'll get the full 54 MBps when that Earthlink Cable comes in at home. *crosses fingers*
Anyway, just felt like sharing/bragging a bit.

And you've just spent some serious bucks which could be used to buy a desktop machine that is 3 times better and 5 times more comfortable to use than a laptop. In case you do really need a laptop...well, its better to have the best than the worst...
In case you bought it without any real need for a laptop...my deepest condolences.
Im sorry, I just felt like taking you back to the ground level a bit

Hey, I need it. College and whatnot. Much easier to take a laptop into the library, wardroom, Marshall Center, etc. than a desktop.

That thing performs the fuck out of my current desktop and the desktop I'm going to get to replace it. How much did it cost?

~US$1200 after the rebates.
Assuming the guy was right, there should be some new desktops coming in soon to my local Circut City that are comparable to this, for around $600 (for just the base).

Check the benchmarks for those high-end processors and compare their performance (benchmark results, not marketing numbers
. Differences are minimal.
Congrats on the new machine. 1200 bucks aint that bad, I expected 2 times more than that...but I live in a different continent.
Oh well, have fun with it.
I had a friend who had bought a high end laptop couple months ago...he told me he will study with it...
"A 2Ghz processor and the newest Ati 3d card...for studying?"
"Yeah."
"Sure."
After a while of squeezing him I finally gotten this out of him:
"...to be honest I just want to play games during lectures..."
Still, your priorities are very different from mine
That's why Im a bit uncomfortable with the idea of spending 1200 bucks on a laptop...

Who ever said it was just for studying?
Once I get a decent mouse I can just hook up to it, instead of the touchpad dealie, I could put some nice games on there and kill time, especially this semester where I seem to have a lot of it.
