I'm pissed

Post by darthdavid »

My cd drive keeps getting worse. Every time i try and use it it refuses to load the cd and the only way to get it to load anything is to open and close the tray till it does. I've just been trying to play star craft for an hour and it refuses to load. What might it do to fix this problem?

A new CD drive can be had for twenty bucks. Hey, components die out... it's a fact of life.

If it makes you feel better, Dave, after you replace it, you can take the old drive out back and smash it with a sledgehammer. Weee!

There is a rudimentary solution that may work untill you get a new CD drive. Try disabling autoplay and then insert the CD. Starcraft should work fine.
I have to tell you something everything I wrote above is a lie.

if it's just a cd rom drive, why not upgrade? most cd-rws and even DVD roms are rather cheap nowadays.

I have windoze xp though and i don't feeling like doing any registry hacks. This pos is unstable enough as it is.

Try XP Power Toys, as I remember it the "Tweak UI" application has a checkbox that will safely disable autorun for data and/or audio CD's.
