What with all the roleplaying threads going on around here, I thought I'd ask this. So, what gaming system do you like best and why?

Edit: Accidentally hit Submit instead Add Option.

I'm gonna get a lotta shit from Mekton fans, but my fave so far is a heavily modified Robotech from Palladium for some awesome Macross gaming. Yup, Macross not Robotech. The big campaign I'll be running soon takes place inbetween the Macross Plus and Macross 7 series.

I own the Mekton books...but all the number crunching and calcs really boggle my mind at times. Maybe someday.....

It's a race between AD&D 2e and D&D 3e (3.5 is worthless). AD&D 2e has a lot of good elements that 3e dosn't. But 3e runs smoother.

2e was a massive train wreck. As for 3.0 vs. 3.5, I have three words: Haste, harm, heal. I rest my case. :P

Y'know, I knew I forgot something. Meant to put Palladium in. *Double take.* AUGH! I forgot Arcana Unearthed! *Runs to the edit button.*

Edit: It seems that it won't let you edit a poll after votes have been cast. Darn. :(

Dream Pod's 9 "Silhoutte"

My vote goes for DP9's "Silhoutte" system. It is a very elegant system, requires only D6's and it is very realistic. Silhoutte is the perfect woma...I mean system. 8)

2e? Heathen!

:?: Are you referring to me? If so, for 2e's inadequacy, I think Skills & Powers should be enough to make that point.

2e was great! For daring to mock it, thou shalt be cast into the fires of RPG hell, where you will be forced to play Street Fighter RPG for all eternity.

2e was cumbersome, counterintuitive, overly complex, and absolutely cobbled together. Parts of it just didn't work with the rest of the system because TSR just added to it whenever a new situation came up. That doesn't have to be bad, but they did it in a vacuum, without considering what impact it would have on the rest of the system. Skills & Powers was about the last straw for the majority of players.

Don't bother. I'm the only dipshit who would DARE vote for palladium. I mentioned it once before, and was metaphorically impaled upon a +3 lance of uncommon pain-causing.

Well yes, the rules were klunky, the the flavor (for lack of a better word), set the standards for many fantasy RPG's, and is one of the coolest things ever.

World of Darkness. It contains so many different themes and flavours :).
Ive played Old D&D, AD&D in its various incarnations, New D&D and not a few other gaming systems. None of them compare to WoD. Except Gurps but thats just a rip-off .

i like some of the WoD settings, though i prefer mage the most(Etherite fanboy.). i also like white wolf's dark ages setting, but mainly Vampire. (can't get into modern as much for some reason).

World Of Aeon, World Of Darknesses less goth-wannabe cousin. Generally the same rules, but with pulp adventurers(Adventure!), superheros(Aberrant), and psions in space(Trinity). Add in characters who can take out entire city blocks, and you can have damn fun.

3.5e gets cookies for being better laid out than 3.0e. And D&D remains my favorite for fantastical games.

GURPS rapidly gaining ground on general RP...

They're ending the WoD storyline. Not bringing in enough money. Never heard of World of Aeon.

they're not ending it because it isn't making enough money. they're ending it because they feel the time is right to do so. and then they're going to be launching a new world of darkness line with completely different cosmologies, histories and powers.

Well, sales have been slumping. Most gamers I know (message boards and real life) who play WoD think that they're starting the Time of Judgment now rather than let it die to poor sales. I don't play myself, so I don't know firsthand, but there's quite a furor about it in the university gaming club.

i've gotten as close to first hand news that i can. apparently they're ending the WoD so they can make way for their new WoD line. more info can be found here

Rogue 9, you should've put in a D20 option in the poll, - that was going to be my first choice - as it happens I picked D&D 3ed. Rock on.

It depends wether you are asking for settings or rules:

The game whose setting I like most is the Amber Diceless RPG, based on Zelazny's Amber saga.

The game whose system I like most.... Hmmm... It may be either Over the Edge (fast and easy), Nobilis (but only for godlike beings) or Everway (complex, uses tarots instead of dice, but very fun).

Though I usually play freeform...

I've said it before, and I'll say it again, Dream Pod 9's Silhouette.

Bathe in the purity of essence that is Silhouette, heathens!

Paranoia! Paranoia just rocks! Has anyone played that?
