Can anyone suggest a good (i.e. free) DVD player?

I just bought a DVD/CD-RW combo drive (drive only) and have gotten it working on my antiquated system. (It's a P3-500, working on a P2B board, so it's pretty much upgraded as much as it's gonna go.) DVD playback works just fine, if I use the crippled PowerDVD I downloaded to try it out. Problem is, I'm really cheap, which means I'd really rather not buy the full version if there's a decent shareware or freeware option out there. I've downloaded a few different players, but I can't find one which has a DVD decoder built in (my video card is a Matrox Millennium G450, so there's no hardware decoding for me).

So, this is the $64 question: does anyone here know of a DVD decoder I can employ without laying out the big bucks?

Many thanks in advance.

You already have something i know, but here's the codec i use. You can use it with your player of choice (though i don't recomend the one on that page because it licks ass)

Any downloadable DVD filter is almost certainly ripped off a commercial product.

To david: um, what codec? I don't see a link.

To DarkPrimus: Erm, what about my neighbours?

Take their DVD player. Doesn't cost you a thing, now does it?

Ah, I gotcha. Well, I'm cheap, but I'm not *that* cheap. (It's an ccupational hazard -- I'm a buyer.) And in case there's any misunderstanding, I'm not looking to pirate software (or steal hardware, for that matter), but rather to make use of stuff people put out there for free.

Theres also nVidia's DVD player. I don't know how good it is since I use PowerDVD instead...
