Is there anyway to do it? Obviously it wont fit directly, is there a method I can use to make it smaller but still playable? Or am I just going to have to get my mate to burn it to DVD for me?

Thanks people... again, if anyone can and does help, then the friendly neighbourhood mods can do what they do best. As long as they clean up the mess afterward and lock the thread on their way out...

you could render it in adobe premiere in worse quality.
or you could split it into two mpeg files with premiere.

if you canĀ“t aford adobe premiere get you could check
http://www.aist.com
they used to have a freeware version of their movie pack for download with few features but enough for what you want to do.

i may add that this way of doing it is going to take a while. perhaps there are better way to reduce the file size.

As others have stated, you could re-encode it down to 700MB. I don't think you'll be able to overburn to 800MB.

Ok, it was just a thought, will investigate the reencoders, but will also give some thought to a DVD burner at somepoint. It's getting to that stage in the game... but not for this laptop. :)

Thanks peeps, it was just on the offchance that there was some miraculous compression method that would shave a few 100 megs off it but still leave it viewable without having to get half of my friends to download anything too fancy.

Purpose served, I think. Again, appreciate the help.

Yeah, you'll be lucky to overburn ~20MB and have it readable.

What you might want to do is split it up in half on two CD-R disks if you don't feel like re-encoding it.

Aren't CD's recorded with "VCD" format a bit larger than a normal cd? like they don't have to store useless info or something? I remember something like that...

Try using the "Create VCD" option and see if the burning program still says there's no more room.

VCD will allow you to atleast hold 735mb,I know for a fact when I was burning SW for VCD.:P

Try compressing the MPG first with KVCD. Same codec, more quality and compression :) and backwards (or is it forwards?) compatible. You're supposed to be able to get DivX quality.
