ARGH stupid stupid me (smacks head)

I finally went through with the ME DOS patch suggested for me in the other thread. This was a mistake, because I'm reckless and incompetant with computers. In the first case, I neglected to make an easily available backup plan for my computer, so the first thing that happened was that the DOS boot worked, but as a consequence I was unable to load Windows due to screwing up the IFSHELP file.

This is where I made my second mistake: my computer came with a "Recover" disc that restores Windows to its factory state and left everything else intact. Being lazy and incompetant, I decided to take this as the easiest way out. Sadly, my computer is not exactly 100% factory. For starters, my CD-RW drive crapped out and had to be replaced, and I upgraded my decript RIVATNT2 to a state-of-the-art GeForce 5ksomething. Clearly, Windows doesn't like one of these, because when I start it up, it shows the WindowsME loading screen, lists the disc drives and then abruptly shuts off. I can get into Safe Mode, fortunately, which is one of the few bright spots here.

Any help for a loser n00b?

Hmm, try removing all drives exept the one you are installing to and the cd rom.

There could be a problem if you have changed HD and the recover cd only accepts the original size or something.
