How I Fixed My Codec Problem

As we all know, I've recently had all sorts of trouble with my videos <COUGH!>*PORN*</COUGH!> not playing because half the codecs I needed were either b0rked or didn't exist. As of yesterday, I fixed the whole damn thing :D

Color Code:
FFFFFF aka White=Required
FF0099 aka Magenta=Optional

1. Uninstall _every_ player and codec except Windows Media Player. Whether it stays or goes is irrelevant.
Feel free to update your virus defs, anti-spyware progs, defraggle your motherdisk, uninstall any junk proggies you never use, and scan the machine for virii/tr0j4ns/spyware/etc...

2.Reboot.
You can do it twice to remove particularly stubborn ju-jus.

3. Download and install MPlayer. Then right-click on a video (any old vid will do), hit Open With, and choose MPlayer. Make sure the checkbox for 'always open this file type with' is checked. Repeat for every type of video file you have on your machine.
Then you can get the lube and lay down a towel...

And there you have it!

Okay, I would like some help. How the hell do I configure MPlayer to always use the aspect ratio and size of the source video instead of always forcing it into the default size? Also, I want to be able to brighten up the playback. The vids always seem to be way too dark...

View -> Options

Click player tab and check "autozoom player".

Thing is there's no GUI. Just a box with the vid and a DOS box. 'Tis all commandline (not that I mind, I just want the right commands to brighten up the vids, use source AR, and make it stick).

Nuking your old codecs and using mplayer is stupid, and white/magenta text do not match well with the SubSilver skin.
