Not compleatly, fileplanet hosts enough files to be good, and the main gamespy network isn't that bad.

Anyway, dosn't change anything, its fans voting this time.

Get All Seeing Eye.

Also if I want a file, I don't use Fileplanet. It decides to just not work (despite my 'successfully logging in' just a second earlier  ) enough times out of ten that I just go Googleing for the file and give FP the 'Fuck You!' it so richly deserves.

Gamespy is so plugged up fulla ads it's not worth my time. That's the *ONE* reason I dumped it for ASE.

*brandishes Railgun* QUAKE FOREVER!!!

Well, try IE for 2 seconds with a popup blocker, works for me.
FP does suck, but the library is huge, and speed is nice.

Well, you do have to remember that allmost no one of the new generation of gamers knows what Marathon is, while Doom is a word even the Press knows.

Anyway, i'm doing write ins to add Freespace 2 back, who's joining?

Which is as it should be. Doom is a true classic with wide name recognition and practically created a genre (Wolfenstein 3d and such being tentative steps). Marathon, however good it may be, just isn't as well-known.

Which reminds me, this is a popularity contest, not a quality contest, you've got fanboy's voting everywhere, even for TIE Fighter above freespace!

Then in the end...we'll likely see a Zelda and FF7 go at it...with maybe a couple maybes.

Where the fuck is the original System Shock though? System Shock 2 rules, but System Shock is a better game.

Asking that(I laugh how they put Marathon up there...mostly I say because of Halo relation) is why you and many know games but not the general populace.

Though for me...Soul Caliber 1 was better in terms of popularity, and Street Fighter 2 Hyper Turbo was their pinnacle.

Final Fantasy VII and Civilization II, two games that kept me up until 5am on a workday. VII had one of the most beautiful and involving RPG stories ever with a villain that has yet to be topped and the materia system was simple and complex at the same time. The reveal about Cloud's past was an out loud "Oh shit." moment for me.

Civilization II was just gaming goodness with an empire that you expanded and controlled with wars that lasted centuries spanning entire continents.
Wherever you go, there you are.

i'd suggest final fantasy 6 Stravo. the graphics might not be as good as FF7, but the storyline is far superior. with a much cooler villain, imo. you just can't beat Kefka for sheer insanity. plus it has a far superior skills system, with the espers. in some ways it's much more versatile.

I wouldn't say it was a better game, but SS1 was certainly innovative.

How the hell does Ocarnia of Time get a mention while Link to the Past doesn't? Ocarnia of Time stunk. Why Civ III over Civ II? At least they got it right with Sim City 2000, though 4 is very very good.

FF7, Civilisation and Championship Manager 97/98 are my three most played. If I had to pick a favourite it would be FF7.

Amazing game.

They had a pre tournament to decide which games from some series would get in. In the vote SS2 got more than SS1. Unfortunately FF7 beat all the others, so yeah you do have a load of fanboys.
Funny thing was, there wa some dumbass on the forums asking why they included Final Fantasy 3 in the FF poll when it hadn't been released in America.

My biggest gripe: No Championship Manager. What's that, football (sorry "soccer") isn't that popular in the US? Oh so lets just ignore the fact that the game consistently sells out every year when it is updated, certainly across the UK and from what i've heard across Europe too!

KOTOR all the way. It is the best game ever, and the only one to hold my attention so completely for so long. After a month, my addictions to other games faded away, but KOTOR remains.

Awesome gameplay. Awesome graphics. Awesome sound. Hugeness. Variation.

For me, in second place comes Tie Fighter, my ex-favorite (before Knights). Third is a tie between JK2, HL and Halo.

How the fuck did Doom beat Marathon? Doom had absolutely jack-shit next to Marathon. Marathon was the first FPS to allow for aiming on the y-axis, had a motion sensor, almost perfectly balanced weapons, an incredible story, actual missions to go on with objectives pertaining to the story and kick-ass multi-player with real-time voice communication. Marathon 2 introduced the WSTE-M combat shotguns, which are the best weapons ever conceived of in any first-person shooter, ever.

What did Doom have? Blood and a pitiful attempt at a storyline. The only thing it has over Marathon is name recognition. Marathon smacks Doom around in literally every department from technical merit to fan obsession.

And where's the original Dark Forces? That game was fucking awesome for its time. I loved the soundtrack.

What's wrong with that? TIE Fighter shits all over Freespace. It's timeless, and despite the technical excellence of Freespace, it actually has a soul. Did you give a toss when you got medals in Freespace? I sure as hell didn't.
