Another stupid Baldur's Gate 2 question/problem

Everytime I go to access my saves in BG the game crashes and I get the following error message. 'Initizilation failed at assertion point pf56ai.'
I reinstalled the game, and bonjour, the error greets me again! I checked Bioware's site for problems and patches, but found nothing pertaining to this problem, and none of the patches are working. What gives?

Have you tried to install the baldurash fix pack?
It fixes a lot of bugs in the game, altought i don't know if this error is fixed in the pack.

*Groans.* ARGH! WORK DAMN YOU!
I've tried every patch conceivable, reinstalled twice, and the damn thing STILL doesn't work. *picks up axe*.

When you reinstall, is it a clean reinstall? Ie. uninstall and then clearing the directory (backup savegames where necessary), then installing it again?

Perhaps it could be that the one of the cds are damaged. It happened to once altough not in the same way you describe it simply crashed to desktop with a error message about some file.
I had to buy the game again

Yep, it's a clean install.
