Installing new hard drive

I'm about to install a new hard drive as my primary drive and switching my current one to secondary. Both drives are standard Maxtor hard drives, the only difference is capacity. OS is XP. Essentially, I just want to do a flat copy of everything on the, now, secondary drive to the new primary. Is there anything that I need to know before I do this?

You can't just do a flat copy, IIRC, there will be problems due to the way Windows handles things.

You need something like Ghost to clone the drives.

Would it be possible to use dd and resize the partition? Can you use dd for the whole drive or will the partition table be invalid?

dd should work, but it isn't exactly the easiest thing in the world to use.
