CD-RW drive problems

Well, having my system perform mostly flawlessly after the recent upgrade was too good to be true, I guess. I just tried to burn some CD-Rs using my Plextor PX-1210A CD burner, which wasn't successful. Nero freezes the system, and Alcohol 120% simply halts and exits. When looking at the drive details in both programs, I find that the drive speed is now reported as 353x read and 32x write! The drive is normally 32x read and 12x write. I can't dial the drive speed back to 12x, as the only two speeds reported available are 32x and 1x (a 1x burn works, but is painfully slow). I had thought that it might be a driver issue, but replacement of the IDE drivers with the default Microsoft ones didn't change a thing. Plextools reports that the drive doesn't exist, even though it still appears in Windows. I can read from the drive just fine, and switching between primary (as slave to the hard drive) and secondary (as master) IDE positions doesn't change this behavior (or solve the problem). DMA/PIO mode doesn't seem to affect this, either. I've installed the drive in another system as a test, and it still works flawlessly there.

If you don't recall, I recently upgraded my motherboard to an Asus A7N8X Deluxe. I'm using the drivers on the disc Asus included, as the drivers on their website are identical. I've also tried the reference nVidia nForce2 drivers, but those caused extreme instability, so I rolled back. This is the first time I've attempted a disc burn since the upgrade, so I'm relatively sure that the upgrade is related to the problem.
