I'm thinking of getting it, love the X-box game.
Should I get it?

The only reason you would buy it is if you don't own the X-Box version, or are a HALO fanatic.
You CAN play multiplayer HALO using the X-Box, so you know... and it's free....

Don't own an X-Box, for now.

Then knock yourself out. I hope you have a high-end computer, though, and a good internet connection, if you want to play online.

Keep in mind that multiplayer halo on the PC lets you fly the banshee and use the hunters gun. If you can find it for a decent price its definitly worth it.

Get UT2k4 instead.

Nope, Halo is clearly superior.

Do not do that again. This thread is about Halo, not Unreal Tournament 2004.

Depends on how much you are willing to spend? Is there really any benefit to getting double?

If you plan on getting the X-Box within the next 6 months then buying Halo is pointless. If you plan on getting the X-Box 6 months or later and will get Halo for the X-Box at the same time, then buying Halo right now is a smarter decision. Especialy if you enjoyed playing Halo for the X-Box. Halo is superior to Halo for the X-Box gameplay wise and has better online functions.
There are however issues with Halo. Bungie seriously screwed the code somehow making it nigh impossible to fully optimize for PC or Mac. This means you will be playing Halo on slightly higher settings then the X-Box, but not full PC or Mac specs. For some reason Halo can bring even duel G5s or high end PCs to their knees.
The other issue with Halo is that Coop did not make it over from Halo for the X-Box. For some strange reason Bungie only coded coop for split-screen play on the X-Box, not even for X-Box networked together. Because of this Gearbox (and the people who ported for Mac) didn't have a proper base to work with to get coop working. Microsoft further axed the whole coop concept from Halo. Because of this Halo is a technicaly inferior product compared to Halo for the X-Box. Halo has fluff in areas that Halo for the X-Box has but is missing a critical component that makes the game.
Supposedly Gearbox is working on releasing the Halo Editing Kit, but Microsoft has yet to authorize them to release it. Sadly Gearbox's contract ended on March 31st and its possible Microsoft is trying to hinder Halo modding. If HEK gets released or some modding gurues figure out how to access the game files you might see campaigns for Halo or coop ressurected.
Think about what you want from the game and what you expect.

In addition, Halo2 will be out soonish (currently Sept I believe), and appears to be wildly superior to Halo. So don't rush yourself.

Halo 2 for the X-Box is irrelevent when it comes to the decision to buy Halo.

Espically considering the person asking about is x-box less.

Try the demo or (if possible) borrow it from a friend and see how it runs. I tried it on my computer (which is not too shabby, amd 2800, fx5600 and 512 ddr) and its performance was mediocre. I wouldn't buy it unless the HEK was released and some of the more interesting mods I've seen proposed actually come to fruition.

It runs quite inefficiently on PC, and it's graphics don't justify the poor performance. My PC runs the Farcry demo fine on 1240x1024 32bit, but Halo shits itself. And Farcry looks better.
