MGS: Twin Snakes gripe.

This game is 95% fantastic. Except for ...

Getting dogtags. What the fuck is up with this? In Sons of Liberty getting enemy dog tags was easy as pie- get behind them, hold them up, then run quickly in front of them and stick the gun in their face. In Twin Snakes, I don't know why, it just seems impossible! I've managed to hold up *one* guy and get his dogtags; but the inability to get anyone else is really pissing me off.

Ack, take a step back.

Ok, so it's the heliport, right after I've gotten off the elevator from the first area, and I want to get the dogtags from the sleeping guard (with the surveillance camera above him). The guard at the other side of the area, where the snow is, is the one I successfuly got the dogtags from. Now, for some reason, I try the exact same procedure with the sleepy guy, yet he instantly makes a break for his gun before I can stick the gun in his face, EVERY time. Seriously, it's starting to piss me off. Having to hold down "Y" to prevent the gun from firing and sending him to sleep/blowing his brains out is also a real bitch.

Anyone else have this problem? I've just given up with dogtags now, it's too much frustration (there's no point in getting them if you're going to miss some, now is there?).

Actually, 100% fantastic. I'm a retard. Hold Up doesn't work in alert/evasion mode, and I think the reason why it wasn't working on him was because the camera was spotting me. Fucking duh. I suck.

never mind.

EDIT: but I don't think I'll bother with ze tags anyway. Just found out they offer no bonuses.

Pretty much, that and they are on different levels...and honestly I like the game, but on Extreme I remember why I did it ONCE and vowed never again.

Though a friend of mine did get Big Boss rank and is trying for all the dog tags now.

How do you do the neck snap in that game?
(I could never figure it out with random button pressing, and the blockbuster I rented it from doesn't give you the manual)

Go near your inteded victim and press A to get a stranglehold. Just A. Not direction + A as that makes Snake throw the victim. Now tap A rapidly until you get the desired result.

If you just want to stun a guard instead strangle him slowly as Snake wil then let go when the guard is knocked out.

Although the best way to knock out a guard (apart from the M9) is a nice solid whack with the Nikita launcher.

You can hit people with a Nikita? You learn something new everyday.

Think of MGS2 mechanics mixed MGS.

It looks and plays smoothly, has everything upgraded, and for the most part my only peeve is that Snake at times is little too twitchy.

Aside from that if you like MGS and have a GC, no reason not to get get it.

And if you think you are all that, try the Extreme which is appraently upgraded to "Get seen, you lose(unless it's a cinema)."

Yup. The best about this is that in the fixed encounters a knocked out guard will count as defeated and blink out. Meaning getting a no kills game suddenly got a lot easier. And it takes a little more stun-health off bosses than a punch-punch-kick. It's a little slow though.

Try shooting one into the men's bathroom while one of the guards is taking a piss in the urinal. :)

Overall the game is just excellent. It's really a great mix of MGS2 and the original- my only gripe now is that there's no point in trying for the dogtags.

Might as well turn this into an MGS discussion: Ivan tells Solid Snake that his dream is to make Russia great again, to have it lead a New World Order- if so, what the fuck is he doing with "the Patriots"?

Like Joe pointed out this is the same man who came up with something that might as well be the grand poobah of tinfoil conspiracies.

Hell I'm awaiting for the aliens to make a play for earth and they were REALLY in control.

Good point. Never mind.

Oh, and I never noticed before, but why does Liquid Snake walk around in Alaska without a shirt?

Maybe he's a Buffalo Bills fan.

*spoilers for heathens who havnt played Metal Gear Solid*

Because he's Liquid Snake! The guy survived crashing in a Hind-D, falling off Metal Gear, and even FoxDie (if you call being attached to Shalashaska surviving.) If he can take all that, then I dont think walking around in the Alaskan cold would phase him too much..

Rented this today.

*first encounter with the cyboninja*

 Ok, who the fuck thought Sam Fisher could take Snake? Just step up and admit it. Oh and bend over, it makes the rebar go in easier.

*2nd encounter with cyboninja*

 And I saved his ass in the first game. Ungrateful bastard.
Oh, and I disliked having to shoot Yoshi and Mario to get those little easter eggs.

*Psycho Mantis*
Hehehehehehe, I'm guessing he wasn't as fun on the PS1 as he is on the GC. Don't think there were rumble controllers for it at that time. And I loved Snake nodding to me to tell me to set down my controller, and how I had to beat him, although not plossible in a real world situation. And the HIDEO black out, that was Slyicon Knight's touch right there. They need to make a new Eternal Darkness.

*Introduction of Sniper chick*

   Meryl, she really does have a nice ass.

The original PS1 had both the rumbling controller features and the blackout. If you have Silicon Knights games on your memory card, he'll comment, just like PS1 (except that was with Konami games). The real bonus is the freaky insane things that happen during that fight that are straight from the masterpiece that is Eternal Darkness.

Yeah, well, his mind powers don't affect the superiority that is the Wavebird!

Oh and "And don't use autofire, I'll know"

Hehehehehe.

Yeah, but he wasn't really in any danger then. He was only captured because he was on Big Boss' side the entire time.

Both the blackout and the rumble were in the original PS1 version. The games that Psycho Mantis recognized on your card changed though, he said that I liked adventure games and that I'd been playing a lot of Legend of Zelda recently.

She's also a royal pain in the ass. Colonel Gurlukovich's daughter (what was her name again?) was a much cooler female character, and she didn't need your protection 24/7.

Olga.

And yeah at least she was able to help herself.

Meryl at times does feel like "So you're my piece if you survive but between now and then, you're the whiny damsel in distress?"

The thing that pissed me off about Olga was that she had Gray Fox's ninja outfit, but she shows up attack Solidus in ... her VDV shirt and fatigues. And dies in two seconds. Why?

I believe Grey Fox.

Though in the second game(which was never released here) you and him go at it, after he goes Metal Gear on your ass.

He'll comment on pretty much all of Konami's games up to that point. I had three Konami games on my memory card at the time and he said something for each of them.

Grey Fox. From what I understand he was on Big Boss' side even before Zanzibar, and his capture in Outer Heaven was prearranged.

It might have been tough for her to sneak her suit on board Arsenal.
