Never played it. Ordered it, should be here any day now. I've been reading FAQs on it and it seems it's not new at all, but simply a remake of the old one. (Same story, and so on) Is that right? I hope not, I was looking forward to a new storyline.

Play the game and then come back and say it's a rehash of the first one.

I played both, and while not that different there are some nice differences in the second that first could've had done.

Heathen! Blasphmer! Your soul shall be thrown to the Deathclaws!

Seriously, it's good, play it. Now.

Patch it before playing and do the rotating-save-slot thing.

What he said. Not patching the game results in extreme, game-ruining bugginess.

You should be able to find a decent item editor and trainer for it for when you get finished playing honestly and want to see the mass of hidden weapons, items and perks.

Heh, I once had a throwing based char who inventory consisted of the robes of the keeper of the bridge of death, and a few hundred holy hand grenades.

Somewhere on this board there is an in-development fan-made patch.

The item editor is a PITA, but the editor for character stats is quite fun

I didn't find it to be a rehash at all. Sure, the engine is the same, but the locations and storyline are completely different. I also found it to be more open ended than the first. More places to go, more stuff to do.

A real classic. The first Fallout was the first RPG I ever played. I have never got cured ever since.

It's definitely a sequel rather than a repeat. Yes there are similarities, but that's because they're both post-apocalyptic RPGs. The many references to things you did in F1 are very cool, and it's just a generally better, more polished game. Still some flaws, but hey, nothing's perfect.

To avoid total confusion, make sure your install the children patch as well as the normal one if necessary (some versions had all the imagfes of kids removed, but not their speech or importance to quests). I couldn't work out what the hell was going on in a bunch of places until I got that.

If you enjoyed Fallout 1 there is no way in hell you will not cherish Fallout 2 once your finished.

Just make sure to patch before you start.

Hmm...I patched, and noticed a few problems. First, no dog in arroyo. It's not there. Just, not there. Also, occasionally, the screen will flash a 16 color thing and then all the shading is done in 16 colors. It makes the game look like shit. Perhaps the player patch will work....

Did you talk to the guy first to get the mission?

You know the area the dog is in is not Arroyo proper?

YEah, I checked the forest to the west of the town, and naw, I din't talk to the guy.

*listens*

Cause I'm stupid.

Oh, I made a melee character. I'm going to try the game without firing a shot. Wish me luck.

Like a couple have said...Dog is not quite in Arroyo proper.

Go a wee bit to the NorthWest to find where.

Also do talk to people because your character at this point is a wuss and Arroyo has a couple people to up your ability at combat.

You are in for a WORLD of pain.

It's possible, I've done it....but it's not fun at many points later wherein...well you'll see.

! Melee-only characters in Fallout? Good luck. It is possible, but is also a PITA.

Melee?

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!

No really, what are you doing?

Super sledge.
Power fist.
Advanced powerarmour.

Melee IS possible in this game and quite frankly can be alot easier..enemies floored don't get back up for one ;)

I've finished 2 or 3 times with melee-only characters, but only once did I fight Horrigan without the help of the turrets or any allies. It was tough as hell, but so cool when I finally managed it.

A melee character should be just as feasible as a gunner, thats the beauty of fallout, everything is possible!

I played Fallout 2 over a period of 2-3 weeks this summer. It took a little longer to grab a "hold" of me compared to Fallout 1, but it is worth every penny I paid.

Honestly Chardok...I would go for both melee and missle ranged combat combo first, since you don't know what's ahead.

Literally it does help because then you'll have a layout of enemies and places where you can do better surprises attacks.

And oh yeah....horde money. With a very high steal you can literally buy anything and steal your money back.
