Anyone else find it odd that the shadows are straight black rather than alpha-blended?

Well this is a beta test version.

That doesn't look any different from the e3 demo.

Where did you get these shots from?

Hrm, that is interesting. Maybe they've been disabled for now since it's just a beta?

Well, This certainly blasts the shit out of the OTHER Screenshots I saw, which turned me vehemently *against* DoomIII. I shall.....peruse the literature on this issue.

Possibly. I noticed the same thing in the E3 demo, and I was wondering why Carmack would put that much effort into an engine and just use straight-black shadows.

Excellent. I think Carmack still has a few aces up his sleeve: it is a beta... :D

Nice models, but a wee bit bright. I still want to see the game in action before I pass any sort of judgement.

The shots look excessively bland to me, also a bit washed out. Earlier shots looked better than this. I've seen videos from the '02 alpha and they look a thousand times more atmospheric and impressive.

One other thing...what's with the smoky brown haze?

Good lord, I can only wonder how loudly my GF3 would scream if I tried to make it render that.

That looks almost identical to the alpha my friend was playing more then a year ago. The graphics are still damned impressive.

Better then Half-Life 2? No. Worse? No. Just different.

Links, or are they on the Steam server?

I don't know if they're on Steam... I got them from Fileplanet.

I think it's airborne dust. The hazy shots look like outdoor or upper level shots. Notice the weathering of areas that have the haze. One of the pictures clearly has no haze, and is also plainly indoors.

Are these from the *ahem* leaked beta?

Maybe that's the new Revenant, or whatever the thing's old name was.

Damn impressive anyway, especially the readout on the rifle.

EDIT: Ah, my bad, it's definately a Revenant.

I'm certain they are, it doesn't look any different to the e3 demo that i've played.

The revenant (reverend as we used to call them on our old-skool lan parties) and lost soul picture is much newer than those old ones. The machinegun's all new and stuff.

Remember the screenshots depend on what the machine running them is set too, never know if they running full settings, since it's supposed to take massive power to run it on full.
