Well I searched but couldn't find anything related to this.
I've spent the last few days talking with McAfee's useless tech support with no help. Why is that tech support is intended to help idiots use their computers but can't help those of us with actual problems fix ANYTHING.
Like most people, once in a while someone will send me an attachment with a virus in it, usually "I fixed your document" or some nonsense like that. Eudora creates temp files in a spool directory as it is downloading e-mails, but then writes attachments and e-mails to permanant locations. The problem is that whenever I get one of these e-mails, McAfee detects the virus in the temp files and when it prompts me for user action, it doesn't allow EUdora to read the temp files at all, meaning that any e-mails I did get usually get lost or corrupted.
The fix that I have read about on the web is to exclude the spool directory from McAfee's automatic protection scanner. I have done this, but McAfee ignores the exclusion settings and scans it anyway. To date I have tried:
1) Installing a patch McAfee tech support gave me
2) Removing the excluded directories from the list, hitting apply, then re-adding them.
3) Adding entries for .tmp and .rcv files (the extensions of the temp files)
4) Disabling HAWK for e-mail (which is useless anyway since HAWK only works with M$ Outlook).
This is a brand new installation of McAfee on a brand new installation of Win2000 Pro on a brand new Maxtor hard disk, so corruption is highly unlikly.
I've searched google but can't seem to find anythone else having this issue.
