New hope for Fallout 3 confirmed

"Following yesterday's conference call with investors, Interplay CEO Herve Caen casually dropped a bombshell. "We're planning to publish Fallout 3," he bluntly told an analyst who was inquiring about the PC role-playing game sequel. The news came as a shock, given that the game community had all but dug Fallout 3's plot in the game graveyard."
So, depending on how much you trust a) the CEO and b) Gamespot's reporting, there you go. It's coming. Through another company's development, but whatever. At least it's more hope for us fans of the series than we had a month ago.

When an analyst asked if it was most likely that Fallout 3 would be developed by an external studio, Caen answered, "Correct."
Uh-oh.

Let's all hope that, if it comes true, it will be up to the serie's name (We all have the example of Might and Magic IX - big dissapointment)

As long as the developers are competent, I don't care. Fallout 2 didn't have Tim Cain and it worked out quite well.

If good developing team that understands the humor and the joy of why Fallout was what it was...I'll be happy.
Please don't try to cash in on Fallout...

Uh-oh.
Not Uh-Oh. Good. Quite frankly, ith black isle gone, I wouldn;t trust anyone at Interplay to walkt in a straight line, much elss while chewing gum.
I think it might wind up with Troika. Failing that, it will probably suck.

Fallout: POS (Brotherhood of Steel, affectionately known...) Comes to mind...
I refuse to get excited about this given the string of recent disappointing sequels in general (BFV for instance) spewing forth from game companies.
Subliminal message: See chardok's thread about Kuma War...you WANT to check it out...you WANT to play it....You NEED it...you MUST try the three day trial...Nevermind that chardok isn't cause he's scared.....you WANT to do it...then you will spend three days at www.subservientchicken.com balancing a gallon of milk on your head and singing the theme song to Mr. Belvedere...streaks on the China, never mattered before...who cares...

Yes, yes, we all know it's trendy and hip for gamers to be "jaded" and cynical about upcoming products. Drink your Starbucks and be pessimistic, chill'uns.
I look forward to this game. Might it suck? Sure. Might it not? Sure.

Oh, I look forward to it, but with an unnamed third-party completing development work, well, I'm somewhat apprehensive about it.

It's ultimately a good thing. At least there's a chance of a good game. And that's more than could be said a few days ago.

You might want to talk to the people like me who think that X-com UFO Defense was the best game ever made, yet after God knows how many sequels they couldn't get another decent game out of the franchise. Gamers are jaded against shit like this for a
reason.

I hope this doesn't end Team Fortress 2-style.
check out the
www.team-fortress.com
There is a forum there, with a bunch of guys still believing that the game will come out.

Well, remember those screens from it before, back when all the projects were rumored to be canceled?

I'll believe it when I have the game in my hand and not a moment before. It wouldn't surprise me one bit if this was just an attempt to stop the negative publicity they've been getting over the cancellation of FO3 and if they really had no intention of finishing the game.

Speak for yourself. I'm actually jaded because it's hip and trendy.

Fallout 3? Hell yeah!
On a related note i was in Game earlier and saw the Fallout collectors set 9Fallout, FO2 and FO tactics). Since i already have FO2 would you reccomend me getting this. I've heard good about FO1 (especially if its as good as FO2) but i've heard tactics was a pile of crap.

Fallout 1 doesn't have the NPC custiomization but it very good.
Fallout Tactics is garbage because it's Fallout without anything but the game engine...could've named it Mad Max for all anyone cared how it panned out.
BTW how much, because they used to sell sets of Fallout 1 and 2 for around $10?

Tactics is a shitty JA2 type game set in the Fallout universe (not that you can tell sometimes. They took some serious liberties.).
Fallout 1 is excellent. I've seen quite a few people who believe it to be better than the sequel.

Tactics is a universally panned game that is actually quite good, IMO. It abuses the Fallout license to be sure, and maybe in your book that's enough to hate it on principle, but the gameplay is excellent, the levels are well designed, etc.

I second that. First time I played the game I expected things to be the same like in the first two games. I was a bit dissapointed in the first moment. But I passed that feeling away and enjoyed the rest of the game. It's true that some of the skills and features for the characters have little use here. But that doesn't stop the game to be a decent one, if not more.
BTW: Has anyone tried to steal from the Quartermasters in the bunkers?

You can and it's a very bad idea.
I look forward to this game. Might it suck? Sure. Might it not? Sure.
You wouldn't say that if, like me, "Pool of Radiance" hadn't beaten you bloody and stolen your wallet after convincing you it really loved you.
And lets face it: Interplay hasn't exactly inspired confidence laterly. Their management managed the company into insolvency (and they may be kicked out of their offices by now) while the company was enjoying unparralled success with game after game in the mid-90s that was hot Hot HOT!
And Tactics is a great game, albeit sort of slow in the later sections. Its not an RPG, though its not too far off, and its bloody good tactical fun.
