I'd take a proper mathematically modelled system over a PC implementation of a pen-and-paper monstrosity any day. Systems without sharp cutoffs, real-time curves, without cutting out accuracy to reduce paperwork... it's lame that they just port standard RPG code, when they've got all the housekeeping and processing power they need.Sr.mal wrote:Meh. Ill take my L5r D10 any day over a d20 game. God I love AEG's D10 system.
Lol RPG players like them... and thats it. Way to grow the market 'Innovation' and 'progress' unheard of, excellent!!Slartibartfast wrote:Oh my, programmers making games that RPG people would like, what has the world come to wonder what's next, a game that simulates Chess or card games, with random cards numbered from 1 to 13 and four suits, instead of an infinite range of random numbers that can give a much better curve of probability

BLASPHEMY! d20 owns you!Sr.mal wrote:Meh. Ill take my L5r D10 any day over a d20 game. God I love AEG's D10 system.
Bullshit. Star Wars d20 is completely different; the only thing it shares is the types of dice you need.Sr.mal wrote:L5r d20 is shit compared to the d10 version. The d20 is just DnD with different names.
There's still the possibility of systems that are easy to understand but hard to calculate. Take my friend Toh's exponential system. Your probability of suceeding at any task is e^-x, where x is the difficulty. You get nice smooth curves with no cutoff, and you never get the normal Dfoo problem where something that is difficulty foo+1 is just as hard to do as something of difficulty foo. The system is easy enough mathmatically, at least for those of us who can figure probabilities in normal RPGs, but its a bit combursome for a kitchen table.Vendetta wrote:The trouble with a complex mathematically modelled system is that the players won't have the kind of instant understanding of it that they need in order to make decisions about what their character can attempt or not attempt, what their alternatives are, and how to progress the character.
OMG! Not only RPG players like them, but they had the nerve to call them RPGs! I tell you, one of these days, bang! straight to the moon!Stark wrote:Lol RPG players like them... and thats it.
Of course! Because the way to grow the market is to change everything we know, instead of adding more variety! Yeah, we should completely erase 1st person shooters and RPG games and puzzle and card games, and make games about calculating the probability curve of the mating habits of the African elephant! Now THAT's innovation and progress.Way to grow the market 'Innovation' and 'progress' unheard of, excellent!!
