This makes no sense to me, because it should be working so i won't be surprised if nobody comes up with any help, but im at my last resort.


I have wireless network in my home.

It connects two computers through a router.

Computer 1 has a LAN internet connection.

Computer 2 does not.

I run the Windows XP internet connection sharing wizard on both computers so that i can share Computer 1's connection across the network (therefore giving computer 2 the internet)

This doesn't work, IP address of computer 1's network connection gets changed, it can no longer be seen by computer 2 because it can no longer access the router and therefore shared internet connection does not work.

A) why the fuck won't it work like its supposed to?

B) why the fuck won't it work like its supposed to?



I really need an internet connection on computer B, as it will be my own personal computer and well.... i want to play multiplayer games on it.

Any help is much appreciated and although getting an extension for a completely seperate internet connection (£15 a month extra) is an option, its not one that my dad will be easily convinced to accept, and will put a strain on my social budget as i will have to pay for it!!

any ideas? (windows help, doesn't help )

What router are you using? Am I correct in assuming this is a Cable/DSL router as well as a switch (or hub)?

The router should act as the gateway for both computers. Don't use Internet Connection Sharing.

Set up your router to connect to your ISP. How you do this will depend on what router you have.

For the computers, just have them use DHCP to get an IP address, and they should autodetect the router as the gateway.

If by "router" you actually meant "switch" or "hub," well, that's different...

Yeah. If you have brodband, just plug the cable/x-dsl modem's ethenet cable into the wan port on your router. Then used one of the wired ports for comp 1 (if i'm reading your current setup right) and the wireless for comp 2. ( I hope i got what your going for right. BTW, ICS sucks 'cause if you ever wann a use a linux box you'll have to fiddle with samba to make the connection work right).

Its a Belkin ADSL router, i can plug the modem into the router with an ethernet, but i can't directly plug the cable into the router through the WAN port cos the cable is completely different.

i have tried all of the methods you suggested still nothing works.


The Box calls it router, so im assuming it is definately a router.

Draw us a diagram of how your network works, because I have no clue WTF you're trying to tell us with your text.

have you tried to assign Comp 1 a static IP on your LAN network?

I have a horrible fealing your trying to connect a USB cable into an RJ45 port....

nope, im not, i know what a USB cable is

problem solved now anyways.

I needed to change the gateway IP address to to that of the host computer, rather than the adsl router. not sure why, but it did the job.

Well, now that the problem has been resolved ...
